I have no idea about food in Australia. Probably influenced by all cultures that have moved in plus the natives.
I have seen many episodes of the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, you have lots of delicious food in USA.
I hoped to inspire Terry to reveal some own favourites on his rides.
Thanks Per, there's really no such thing as "Australian Food". Australia is a nation of immigrants like the US, so we've adopted foods from all over the world. Aboriginals ate pretty much anything that moved, but there are no delicious Aboriginal meals, that I'm aware of.
Before WW2 Australia was very pro Britain, so most of our food was very English, then during the war we had lots of US servicemen here so burgers and hotdogs became popular, and after the war we had a huge influx of migrants from Europe, so lots of Italian food especially, but German/Austrian food.
In in the 70's we had a big intake of Asians, so Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, etc. Then of course in the 80's lots of Lebanese folks moved here, so Kebabs are pretty common too. Of course, there's Mexican food here too, but probably more American/Mexican as opposed to authentic Mexican, a bit like Pizza Hut or Dominoes Pizza's, compared to real Italian pizza. The American smoker/barbecue places are starting to pop up here and there, and I do like that stuff. Australia is probably the United Nations of food, when I think about it?
I have to go over to see my mate Fred to look at his collection of CB750 tanks as I may need another one for my K2 bitsa, and he lives an hour or so east of me, so I think I'll ride one of my Triumphs over to his place on the weekend, and ask him if there's somewhere nice to eat on his side of town? Even a small pizza would be nice, I haven't had one since my oldest son went back to Sydney a month ago.
