Oh come on Delta, how hard can it be to just measure the number of threads in 1 centimetre, if it is 8, it is 10x1.25, 9 and a bit is 10x1.5, and a fine thread is 10 threads in 1 cm.
It's a Honda so foreign threads you won't find!

Wait a minute, the nut is not listed as a separate part. That's strange and clearly leads one to believe that that part of the kick arm isn't supposed to be taken apart. Also that nut is not found in the shop, not even in the shop that dat does all odd sizes. Could it then be that Honda has made a special nut, that will only serve on that particular part? I'd like to know that. Now the guy in the hardware store has spent quite some time trying to help me. In the end he suggested the same you did in reply #11: get it on with some red loctite. That remains an option ofcourse, but you can't blame someone to post a question about that odd nut, not on a forum where you have the best chance to find an answer. Could well have been, somebody here would have known more. If nobody knows, no big deal. Why the sarcasm?

No sarcasm, just a straightforward question like your own.
Put that kicker on your bike, as said before, with a locking agent so it won't ever fall off your bike. It's not as if you'll ever use it, I haven't kicked my Honda's in over 20 years. A good Honda doesn't need kicking!

Look at all these reactions... and then when folks don't know, they become sarcastic. Hey, it is not a shame if you dont know something. How many more times do you want me to repeat: If nobody here knows, OK, nobody here knows, no big deal.
And in case you have forgotten. This was the original question:

Before I do irreparable harm, what's the thread of the indicated part (bottom and nut) of the kickstarter on my CB500? Metric?

Delta, I know this is not your first language. Much of what is said (especially by the Brits) is just banter. Don't take it so serious. It's not something generally disturbed. I always use my kickstarter if the bike has not been used for a week or two.

Ok I make bit simple here. We now told you twice how to check the thread pitch.
I was actually going to post more on that, but I won't , because you wont take orders.. as you put it.
Your hardware guy not knowing how to tell is not the problem here, as there has been several ways to determine pitch, explained on here..
  Good luck with it..

PS, I had asked to see other side of nut, if it was a special locknut, or peened, then it perhaps should not just be wound off as it  can loosen the original thread. May need to be cut or relieved. To preserve thread.

But... it had already been done in the shop, Sir, by someone with the proper gauge and who knows a lot more than me. He also saved me from buying a gauge set I would have used only once in my life. Every hardware store will do that for you. Where I live, I have three within a 5 mins. walk.

Oh... but there are ways to post info without using nasty sarcastic orders. You may have missed it, but I have experienced this sour attitude by Trigger before. This has been the first time I have reacted to that. I don't know what I have done to him or Nurse Julie, but it must have been serious.

Good luck with it..
Thank you very much, Sir.
Oh, great move, Nurse Julie, about Trigger actually knowing the thread but not willing to share the secret. So it was not about him not wanting 'to go out to the cold outside workshop to measure one' after all. I guess we can end this thread here. Thank you all. Some have given good and well meant advice and some have given information about themselves which is also useful. So thank you all.

What does 'peened' mean. I am not a native speaker and Google Translate doesn't help here.
The hollow end with the threads swaged outward probably with a die to hold the nut on was sometimes called peening. It could have been done by striking with the rounded end of a ball peen hammer this hence the name.I had to take mine apart because the little spring that holds the detent  ball rusted away. I may not have used a die and just jewelers files to get the nut back on. It's been 8 years since I reconditioned it.
