Front brake switch needed, 1978 750 four K
« on: October 15, 2020, 06:17:19 AM »
I am completely new to bikes. Classic cars are my thing so this is my 1st time working on a bike. I have a 78 with the round reservoir master cylinder. My front brake light switch is missing and from what I have ascertained it would be in the lever. I did not see a hold for mounting one but until a little while ago wasn't even sure where the switch was located on the bike. Can anyone here point me to what switch to buy and if I need anything else to mount it? Many thanks and sorry for such a basic question. The diagrams I have looked at so far are a little confusing

Go to cmsnl.com and look up your particular year bike from cc and year.
You will find the microswitch probably listed with the master cylinder and get a part number for the switch and tiny screw.
I could do it for you but there are going to be more parts you need.
There should be two swall wires with small spade connectors on hanging from the rh switch that go to the micro switch

Thanks, I was on that site and found a switch but have no idea what else I need to install it. My handbrake lever has nothing on it. The wire for the brake inside the headlamp is sheered off

I guess I'll order the part and figure it out from there

Their diagram lists a clutch switch #9 and nothing on the brake lever

On that picture part 1 is the brake light switch and the screw is just below it.
The clutch switch is totally different and associated with the starter safety circuit

78 was the first year to use that, if it was a 77 build it may not take that, and can use the older style parts, which had a junction on the lower triple tree.  77 and earlier had a notch on front of tree and a bolt hole.
So check  if your master cyl is switch type, and if your triple tree is notched or not.
