CB750 clutch suggestions
« on: October 16, 2020, 10:14:10 PM »
Hello guys

So getting ready to do some work on the 750 and order a few parts. First off its a moderate 836 build so its making some extra HP,

One thing that needs attention is the clutch. It has always slipped at high rpm and load, when I built the bike I used some Purple Circlip racing clutch springs, earlier this summer I changed them out with some Barnett springs and it actually started slipping worse. So I think its time to change out the clutch.

Yes I am using proper motorcycle oil, so its not that.

Searching around I found this about early vs. late style clutches and 1.460" vs 1.560" stack height, was thinking mixed up early vs late clutch parts may be my issue?

Finally Im just looking for suggestions for a good quality clutch to handle a moderately built 836cc.

Yes, if you put a short stack of plates into the deeper clutch it certainly could be the problem. What year 750 are you talking about?

its a 74 chassis with a 74 engine but is an early enough serial to not have dowel pins on the head studs like 73 and earlier. Its also a pieced together bike so cant be sure exactly what's in the mix. think I will be pulling the clutch cover and measuring to confirm before ordering anything

I’m running the stock Honda clutch with a Wiseco 836 kit and Megacycle cam, my clutch doesn’t slip. Are you sure yours has the correct number of plates?

I'm also running a stock K1 clutch with an 836, and my clutch doesn't slip either. The taller clutch inner was used with a deeper basket, and a double steel plate in the middle of the stack.

I’m running an 836cc with an ‘Easy clutch’ from Yamiya and it doesn’t slip either. It’s not rough and shifts real well. It makes things well.....easy!

Did you get the regular(easy) or the racing kit?
