Working on a friend’s cb450. Nice bike! She’s a small lady and just loves it!

Finished up the cb450 today. Took it for a short run. What a sweet ride with an amazing amount of torque and acceleration! In 1970, this was a “big” bike. My wife rode it up and down our road and called it”cute”.......

Were you able to identify any interchangeable parts that ended up going onto a cb750k0 in early production?  Caliper, ignition etc.

Front wheel, caliper, font fender ( single cut at the back) and caliper brackets all looked the same. Not much else...... delightful, smaller design. Really tightly packaged, but all extremely accessible. No vacuum ports for sync’ing the carbs, so I used my old “Unisyn”. It fouled the choke butterfly when open, but used a slice of old radiator hose to extend the carb throat. Sweet bike.

Yeah, it was hard to disregard that bike. I didn't: had a CL version first and a CB version later. Both were a joy to ride! At hiway speeds they could get a little tiresome, though, with the vibes in the handlebars. But I'm talking 8-hour days, here...

Apparently, the Honda 450 was faster then the British 650's back in the day.

 Rear turn signals and mounts are the same also for anybody needing some for a K0 or K1 750. I like the blue color.

It was painted by a local body shop. Turned out well and it does look good.

Apparently, the Honda 450 was faster then the British 650's back in the day.

Steve: Is yours the 4-speed? Those are really rare...
We used to call the early ones the "Bone Shaker Twin". They could cut a license plate in half in a single day's tour.

Hey Mark...yes, it's a '67 K0 w/4 speed.  Nearly all original, picked it up from a buddy that has a couple of them. Went for a ride earlier today, it is a "vibrater" but runs great!
Only original once, I wont be restoring it.

I rode one of those once, and I marvelled that Honda went to the trouble of adding the 5th gear to them. It was a perfectly-married gear-to-torque ratio package at all engine speeds I tried, to 100 MPH.

Back "in the day" I had a friend with a CB450, the first year with front disc. I was on a CB77. After one long day's ride just after him getting the bike - well over 200 miles - he had no license plate, just a couple of jagged bits of it around the bolts. Familiar with this problem (CB77...) I helped him mount the replacement plate with fender and rubber washers. No plate breaking problem after that (although various engine and other parts rattled loose, of course).
We often rode from Toronto to Niagara Falls or even Buffalo and back after school just for something to do.
Long rides required a stop every hour or so to let the tingling and numbness in hands, feet, and butt go away a bit.

Also had a first year CB450 with the disc brake.  I think it was a 1970 1/2.  My first bike.  Bought it at Anderson's north of Detroit.  Had no trouble keeping up with friends 650 BSA's and Triumph's.  Sold it to buy a 73 XLH Sportster.
