Anglia gasser?  I bet there are a couple british members here saying wtf!

Looking at the bonnet (Hood) badge Sean, I think that's an Austin A40 "Dorset". Pretty common car here in Oz when I was a kid, and probably a few still rotting in fields. I had a Ford "Prefect" (that we nicknamed "Defect") when I was 15 or 16, looks a lot like an Anglia or a host of other Pommy sh1tboxes (Oz slang for "Fine British Automobiles") that were around back in the day. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah mate, most of those old sh1tboxes looked the same, designed before WW2, and still being built in the 1950's. The Pommy Baastards (Aussie slang for "Wonderful British Citizens") love drag racing too, so they would build cars like the one in the pic, powered by whatever they could get their hands on, back in the day. Fuel prices in the UK and Europe have always been horribly expensive (think 4 or 5 times the price of gas in the US) so V8's weren't/aren't all that common in British and European cars (apart from luxury brands) so there were some pretty radical 4's and 6's out there. ;D

I will post a pic. For a long time I was known among Central Illinois Drag Racers as the guy that towed two jr dragsters and a 3 wheeler to the track behind the 40 Chevy.  My youngest daughter and I built the trailer low with a tilt deck so we could unload easy at the races.   It towed good behind an 86 Monte Carlo SS too.

Don, How long ago were you on the drag racing scene in Central Illinois? Dad was out of the scene by the mid-70's when my sister and I were born. But from the late 60's thru the early 70's he was all GTOs, Trans-Ams, and some custom work on the classic model below. Based in Monticello, IL but racing a lot at Motion Raceway, Assumption, IL.
I tinkered a bit in the 70's but got a front engine nostalgia dragster in 89. Usually ran Havana and Cordova, I got a runner up in Memphis at the Muddy Water Nationals and found the chassis broken when I got home. Before it got rebuilt, we got a jr. dragster in 93 and another one in 95 or so and still race with a rear engine dragster. Quick time is 7.39 at 182 mph but we usually run 8.90 at 175 or so.  My girls raced each other in four final rounds, my greatest statistic.  My middle daughter won her first race in a new car that we built, that had never been on a track before. I told her that's a stat they won't ever take away from you. She was #2 in the Midwest Super Comp Assoc. a couple years ago, We led the points for an hour one day.  Then defective heads and a new baby put the damper on the racing. Car is fixed and not racing stopped the drain on my bike / hot rod money for a bit.

 There was a black A40 gasser / show car that still gets my blood pumping. Zoomie headers and a blower through the hood. I remember a Hot Rod mag article where they showed it at Cobo Hall in (Detroit?)  Anyway they fired it up when leaving and rattled the windows.
  That inspired me to start a jr dragster leaving a mall car show, we set off burglar alarms. Security was not impressed. Everyone else was, 5 hp briggs on methanol and a 3 step straight pipe, it ran a 30mm Lectron.

 Putting it back together for the umpteenth time, defective heads repaired/failed/repaired/failed/etc etc. Replaced, failed, repaired. Then I had the trans rebuilt while it was apart but it got trash in the relief valve and refused to move. That time I repaired it myself.   
 My buddy that did my work needs a clean room in his shop. He's a good dude but I'm just not sure I'll go back.

Good idea building a vapor blaster Don, Lash here has just put one together for (relatively) cheap, and is getting good results. No doubt you've got a nice big air compressor, so a harbour Freight sandblasting cabinet, a sump pump and a few other bits, and you'll be making all your metal bits look new again.

I paid close to 1000 bucks to get my K0 engine blasted (in pieces, of course, I didn't want an engine full of watery grit) and I'm surprised that any oil or road grime washes straight off it with cheap degreaser, bringing it back to "As New" condition. Needless to say, I want a vapor blasting cabinet now......... ;D

Ha ha, I thought that you would have something like that Don, 80 gallons sounds fantastic, I'm trying to decide what to buy myself for my 61st birthday next month, and am looking at a compressor with an 80 litre (21.62 US gallon) tank, and wondering if that'll do the job? My other thought is harnessing the power of my pressure washer. It's a 5000 psi (or something like that, I'm slowly losing my memory, along with my mind) petrol driven thing, so will be noisy, but won't need an expensive compressor to run it, so maybe I can use it, but inside a cabinet? (just the gun, not the pressure washer....) Thoughts? ;D

 You're reading my mind, I have a gas pressure washer too. My sister didn't want to pay to have the carb cleaned so I bought it and fixed it. There must be a way to combine the forces of the pressure washer and air comp.
 My late neighbor had one 15 years ago, too bad he isn't around to show me the how and why.

Yep, as long as the pressure washer pump could handle the water/glass bead slurry and feed it back from the tank under the gun in the cabinet, back to the gun, I reckon we'd be on a winner Don. I'd almost sacrifice my petrol engine powered pressure washer to find out, but I've remembered that my oldest boy has left not one, but two electric "Karcher" pressure washers here, never to be used by him again, so I might sacrifice one of them, as I don't want to mess up my big one, and anyway, the electric ones are quieter and won't cause me to die from carbon monoxide poisoning if I need to use it inside my garage. Of course there's always scope for electrocution, but that's probably not that much of a risk..... ;D

 I was thinking of feeding the high pressure water and air/blasting media through different sides of a vapor blast gun. I'm pretty sure media would consume a pressure washer pump. In my case the media would be a total loss deal. I used to have access to lots of sump pumps with worn out switches, I'm going to learn more.

Don.... I put new rims on my K0, but staying with the “oldies” for th s/c project. Tough call.

 My thoughts too. That and I'm a famous cheap ass. I had considered leaving it a patina bike until I was offered the gold tank set. Gold makes the K0 trifecta.

 Steel rims don't scratch easily.   If they do , the tire irons need polishing.
Had a buddy talked about doing something on his rear wheel,  I said just take tbd tire off. He said no I don't want to scratch the rim up any more ! I said steel rims no problem. ..let's have a look.. and there were nasty scratches. I said WTF... ?  You had this since new ?.. who has been changing tires? 
 So I said let's see  your irons.. they were rough... geez polish up your tire irons... I mean you can't expect them to work well I'd they are not smooth..  I find steel rims generally  do not need special  attention to avoid scratches..  just don't use a file or sharp objects..

This was a photo posting experiment, some day I'll be able to not only post them but also where I want them.

 I mentioned getting a blast cabinet, My wife said get a good one. I said harbor freight and she made a face. She might be surprised how good a cabinet I can find.

I just ordered a 20 litre drum of Simple Green Aircraft degreaser to put in my ultrasonic cleaner, $296 ($230 USD) ouch! Still, if it's as good as everyone says, I guess it'll be worth it. ;D

Thanks John, I'm hoping to be able to water it down a lot as I want to get the max life out of that 20 litre drum. My 1969 Yamaha YSD6 will be arriving soon, and will need lots of cleaning after sitting in pieces for many years, so I'll report back soon on how effective it is in the ultrasonic cleaner. ;D

Looks great Don, and the price is way cheaper than anything I can buy here. I've got a price shipped to Sarasota FL (my shipper to Oz) and the unit is $2864, plus the shipping is $500 to Florida so in total $3364. I'm betting it'll be another grand to get it to Oz. (they are 275 lbs and shipping dimensions are 49x41x74) They don't have a distributor in Oz sadly.

I'm still thinking about the pressure washer strategy, I know that the pump probably won't handle the slurry of water and grit, but I was wondering if I could use a separate slurry pump to pump the water/grit slurry to the nozzle, as opposed to it just sucking up fresh dry grit? I'll have to think some more about this..... ;D
