Topic: Late CB750 K0 Mold to Gold, the nugget.

   This is a CB750 K0 facebook marketplace find, it was a "new barn" bike. The PO got it in a hoarders estate clean out as part of his pay. I beat another guy to it by 5 minutes. The Family didn't want $200 plus costs to title it for me, that was two years ago.
   I got the Vermont title papers in order today and they're sealed ready to mail. I've been sitting on this 6/70 K0 and it's time to do it or don't do it. My original goal was a Gold K0 since I've got red and blue/green already but I've got too many bikes and a major car project going on. If I build it, other bikes must go.
  It has pods, and has been re-jetted. I took it to the drag strip and rode it all over all day. It ran well and had good manners. Pretty original except the poo poo brown paint.

"Upgraded" to K1 look back in those days?

  Someone changed the sidecover emblems, added lowering blocks, paint and the Jardine mufflers.  After meeting the PO's of a bike or two it's a mystery on this one. Something fell on the tach side of the front end. I have most of what it needs. I really wanted it for K0 parts but don't have the heart to take it apart.
  Do you see other changes? I'm certainly no expert.

Are those rubber end K&N  filters.. first set I had were around 75 ... never see them anymore, mIne got used on about 3 of my bikes..

 I believe they are Frank. I'll document settings and keep the jets with them when I go to the stock airbox. I have a big bore K2 with no numbers on the frame that may end up with all of the hot rod parts.

 Edit: actually they are "rusty chrome end" dirty K&N's  I can stick my big shop vac on one and it doesn't slow down at all so the dirt hasn't plugged them too badly.

  I feel safer putting on the tach and replacing a few damaged parts now. I'm probably doing some parts swapping once I dig into the K0 stash.  Gold body sets seem to be sold out at Yamiya except the gold with a white stripe prototype clone set. Out of my price range right now anyway.

  I'm wondering gold/white stripe like the prototype, gold on gold, Gold with the K2 black/gold/white pearl stripe or the more normal to me gold/black stripe?  If it was another 71, I'd do Honda Accord tiger eye brown pearl with the K2 stripe. I had planned to do a K2 but then found this K0.
 This brown had some metallic in it but it's surely a custom mix.

I'd also love to follow the restoration if that's what you end up doing. Is it a sand cast?

  Not a sandcast, it's a June of 70 model. It's really all there, I may go for a minor restoration. I have a 6/69 Sandcast and an 11/69 Diecast that I got by timing and luck. I don't think I ever told before what I paid but I'm no high roller. I'd be safe to say over 12 years I still don't have $12K in both together.
 The red bike in my avitar is the sandy and my blue green one was oct. 2019 bike of the month.

 No word from Vermont yet on the registration, I'll leave it aside for now but am working on it in my mind. I could go ahead with the red seat foam. I'll do that.

 A nice lady from Vermont called today and said she needed the date on my bill of sale, I had left it unmarked. She also apologized because I had overpaid the tax and it would take a couple weeks for the refund to come but the plate would go out today.
 I'm going to look for some stock jets and dig out the K0 stuff I have ratholed.

So, you'll get the registration from Vermont and then transfer it to your state to get a proper title?  Is that how it works down there?

 I hope so. It's been done before although guys that have inquired were told no, I don't intend to ask permission. I'm willing to test the local Gendarmes because I'm hitting the streets with the VT plate for a bit.  I'll claim dual citizenship, VT and Il.
 I rounded up all of my K0 parts bins and found some nice stuff. This one is more original than most bikes I've found. The headlight bucket had incorrect bolts and is cracked as is the left sidecover but I have a sweet K2 bucket to paint. It even has the metal spacers in it already. It has a Stanley headlight, a shock cover is dented. The rear rim feels round although it's not an early rolled rim, I've heard them called "semi rolled". At least it's not 16".

 I got out my stash of K0 stuff, to see what this bike needs. The stuff was spread out a little so I'm pulling it all into two totes.  I feel like Scrooge sitting in my pile of gold.

 I was surprised to find a pair of Stanley H4 lenses and a few Stanley sealed beams.

 Different build but I'm going to assemble a new cb750 headlight for the drag bike instead of the ebay new light and housing. I'd like to add a euro headlight and run an LED in the park light position.

Man, my seat pan was cracked. Nothing available except in Vietnam. I looked at DSS and Yamiya, they're out of everything. Well not everything, just the things I want. The factories must be shut down. Seat pan's, seats, 4 into 4's I may as well put this K0 into running as is order. Vietnam has some seats and pans but I was hoping to not spend repro seat money on a pan.

 Man that is a fact.  I prefer chocolate brown to poo brown but, you are correct. I owned a 72 Catalina 2 dr. this same color, 20 or more years ago I junked it and kept the 400 engine. In retrospect it was a better car than the one I'm keeping but that color, ugh. 
 Once, in the parking lot at the Louisville flat track race in the middle of a couple thousand bikes my brother was locking his fork. I said do you really think out of all of these cool bikes somebody is going to choose yours to steal?

I lived in the Chicago area in the late 1960s and until 1971. I think it was kismet that landed me my 'Garnet Brown' 750K2, as my first K1 had 3 steal attempts on it in just the first 2 months that I had it. In the subsequent years since then, only 2 more attempts were made, the last being after I painted it gold!

   I changed insurance companies on my 85 monte carlo ss and 40 chevy coupe. Two weeks later they cancelled my insurance, said neither car would last 30 minutes in certain areas in Chicago. Never mind the fact I'm 4 hours from Chicago and didn't go there. I made the agent write me a check to cover new insurance elsewhere until my refund came. 

 It was two weeks ago when the lady in VT said my plates would go in the mail that day, I guess she wasn't doing it herself. L0L!   
  I now have in my possession the VT plate and copy of my application for registration. No sticker or reg. yet.  I did get a refund for overpaying the tax.

 I got the new to me old original seat from Hondaron today. It looks really good, the vinyl is a little hard, I'll soak it with Avon skin so soft as soon as I get some more. In the meantime I may take a shot at welding this seat pan. I read here that the red foam in the middle can be recycled with layers of white seat foam. I have some Goldwing seats apparently made by lazyboy. I may go to town on them with my electric knife.
 I just practiced on a smoked ham so I have it all tuned up.

I made the custom-fit-to-me-and-her 2-up touring seat on my 750 from a Yamaha Venture seat foam (and handmade cover from real Naugahyde - only one nauga was killed for it...). It is still a perfect fit, 32 years later!

 I had a couple mouse infested seats that I reduced to just the pans. That's the day I thought I contracted bubonic plague, I was sick as a dog the next day. I wonder if I tossed them?
