Not sure what this part is, crankcase area?

Hello all,

I decided to clean out the engine crank case after some pretty nasty gunk got into the engine when I cleaned out the gas tank. Lesson learned there.

Anyways I have this part but I'm not sure where it goes. I think it's the top half of the crank case but I could be wrong. Any ideas?

That is a cylinder base dowel with oil restrictor for a 500/550, as you didnt say what bike if you are working on anything else it shouldnt be there

Ah my apologies! It's a 1976 CB550. I think my title got modified somehow. Thank you!
