I have a '75? cb550k that looks like it came stock with 4-2 pipes and I would like to replace them, preferably with 4-1 pipes. From what I've read the stock 4-2 pipe bikes have a slightly different frame profile compared to their 4-1 counterparts (to accomodate the differing exhaust systems).
Is a 4-1 pipe config adaptable to my bike or do I need to bite the bullet and find a fresh 4-2 assembly? I can weld hangers/mounts if necessary.

Thanks!

No cb550K ever came with a 4 into 2 system, they all had 4 individual pipes.

there are aftermarket 4-1 pipes that will fit a 550k (which always came with 4-4 as rob says) without frame mod.
the stock 4-1 pipe of the 550f model won't fit the k model unless you modify the frame, and the kickstart and rear brake levers.

Great, that's what I needed to know. I didn't realize the 4-1 pipes were all aftermarket. You learn something new every day ;) Thank you both for the quick replies and useful info- much appreciated!
