Hi thanks for adding me to the forum, 1980 cb550 not for the purist but I like it Merseyside uk england and as a note I have recently been ill and my spelling and typing can leave a lot to be desired please bear with me

Ps where can I post tech questions in this case specifically

Welcome aboard.
From your picture you have a 1977 or 1978 CB550 not a 1980. The CB550 end production in 1978. Yes yours may have been titled there in the UK as the year it sold(as a left over model) but was manufactured in late 1976 to early 1978, for either a 1977 or a 1978 model year.
As to where to ask your questions, I also have wondered that as that myself as there isn't clear instructions as to that in the descriptions. My guess is sohc/4 bikes.....????

2008 GL1800 my daily ride and cross country runner

Prior bikes....
1972 Suzuki GT380 I had charge of it for a year in 1973 while my friend was deployed and learned to love street riding....
New CB450 K7 after my friend returned...
New CB750 K5 Planet Blue, demise by ex cousin in law at 9,000 miles...
New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....
1983 GL1100A, 1999 GL1500 SE, 1999 GL1500A

Does your bike have a vin plate on the steering neck with the manufacture date to get the actual model year?
Your front directional turn lights give away my statement above as well as the side cover emblem.

It has a pkate on the frame but i cant see a year of manufacture on it, I will take a pic tomorrow

the picture is not very clear but looks like a k3 which would've been sold in 77/78.
when you have the frame number from the vin plate, you can match it with model version here: http://www.sohc4.com/cb550/cb550/
