wire to nowhere
« on: November 10, 2020, 04:57:37 PM »
Does anyone know what this red wire with a 90 degree connector goes to or does?
It comes off of the pos. battery cable. 74 750K.
The wiring diagram in Clymers shows it but it doesn't show it being connected to anything. It's short and only reaches to the seat latch,
Thanks

While I haven't worked on a k4, I've never seen one of that plug/wire color used by honda.  More importantly that wire would need an inline fuse to protect the component it powers.  Does the electral tape cover a splice?
I have run in to several unused connections on a k8 harness that are also shown in the wire diagrams.  These are usually for a circuit not required or used in the us, but used in another country for a specific purpose.

It's not a splice. There was a bit of bare wire showing at the crimped connector. This is a pic of the wire in the wiring diagram from Clymer K3 to K7. Center of the pic.

It doesn't look stock to me, either. Where does the wire go? Does it go into the main harness? The only solid red wire in the stock harness goes from the main fuse to the ignition switch.

Yes that red, as well as a green are spares.

This is a K4 I've been working on for a friend.

Yep, extras. I have them too on my K4. Got the bike from my dad so nobody before messed with it.

Someone else having the red wire that isn't used makes me feel better. I don't see an unused green wire. The only green wire near there is a ground to the bottom bolt on the seat latch. I think it's a ground for the rectifier and the starter safety switch.
scotty, the wire comes from the pos battery cable at the end that connects to the starter solenoid.
74CB750K4, thanks for the confirmation.

Yeah I initially thought it was added by a previous owner for just that purpose.

The Clymer schematic shows a connection, not a wire, the way I interpret it. But Clymer diagrams are not definitive: what is on the Honda schematic?
Leaving an open unfused battery power wire end with a connector, although insulated, hanging free... I can't imagine Honda doing that.

I happened to run across this pic from a vendors web site. The red wire with the 90 degree connector is the one I'm talking about.
