Topic: Anyone worked on a cheapo chinese bike?

I recently got this cheetah 200 running for my dad's friend. He has had it for 10-15 years. I got it running farily easily with a carb clean and a new battery.

At first there was an oil leak at the left side where there is a silver cover. After running a while the leak got better (which has happened to me on other bikes, O ring swells up and problem goes away).

Anyways I took it out to the local trails and when I started it up, it was now spewing out oil of the same place. I decided I wouldn't be able to ride it. So this morning I removed the silver cover expecting to see an oil spinner, or points, or something. However there is just a bolt head on the end of the crankshaft. And that area appears bone dry. So I am assuming oil is never meant to get into this compartment in the first place.





I would like to fix the leak and make this thing rideable... anyone have an idea? Is there a seal between the silver and black parts? That would mean removing the entire black left side cover and i'm not sure what is underneath. Based on Hondas I worked on I would assume it is the stator and rotor.

its the generator and ignision impulser,,, need to be dry. behind the shield.a crank seal must have gone..its one piece shield..so to thek..uou need to take the vhole side off..but a easy job...

Behind the whole of the large black cover should be dry? I know that some honda stators are dry and some are wet. small twins are wet for example.

I agree it should be easy to get the black cover off in a few minutes. Just being cautious because with anything on this bike, if it breaks, like gasket or O ring that I could have avoided touching.. it will be hard to replace.

I attempted to remove the black side cover. I removed all of the screws on that side. I see that the shaft of the starter motor goes THROUGH the black cover. The chrome (actually plastic) cover that says "starter motor" budges but wont' come off. I was prying at it and actually broke it a little.

I removed the screws that secure the starter motor to the engine, so I'm hoping the black cover can come off now. I assume that the plastic/chrome cover has a cog behind it with a chain that goes down the crankshaft.

Does anyone: know if there is a sequence for removing these parts to get the large black side cover off? I would think the silver cover comes off first, then remove the cog from the starter motor shaft, then remove black cover. But really I have no idea what is under the cover. I haven't tried knocking the black cover with a rubber mallet yet, because I don't want to damage anything by going out of order.

Pretty much what I've learned in general about Chinese scooters and bikes boils down to getting all of the Chinese fluids replaced with new locally available stuff, brake fluid too, replace spark plug with a known brand, and retourque everything to spec by fastener size.
(according to Honda general practices)

Just these things will make those rides more reliable.

Are you familiar with making your own gaskets?

I passed my MSF test (search youtube, MSF box) on a similar bike years ago.
