Caliper mount CB750k1
« on: November 10, 2020, 09:07:19 AM »
Another question. The old caliper mount (bottom one in the picture) has far too much play in it. It is very loose on all axis. I can easily get the pivot bolt out. I need to replace it.

The spare I have is tight and I'm wondering if it's too tight. The arm moves left and right but seems to me it requires a bit too much force. It's not seized but I'm not able to get the pivot bolt out to clean and grease. I tried to punch it out and it won't move. The cotter pin is out.

Heat it, punch the axle out and grease it generously.

I just did this same exact thing a few days ago. Use the correct size punch and lots of lubricant. Hit it and move it, repeat and it will come out. The pin was covered in thick heavy gunk, making it feel like it is seized/stuck inside.

Make sure you support it well when trying to remove. Can easily break it with a press .
Try expanding/breaking  free  with careful use of heat before using a press.

AND  once it starts moving... a bit of back and forth ..and oil.... might break the grip sooner and prevent further damage.

I was thinking of taking a picture while John was operating the press.  It came out so easily with the right tools! I'll clean it up and it'll be as good as new.  Frank you were right.  There are two o-rings in there.

I was able to get some badly needed parts for my k1 (fender, points cover and turn signal mounting brackets) and get a nice  tour of John's collection. WOW!

Thanks again for the parts and help!

I tightened mine up with a cut out piece of aluminum can as a spacer/shim. Quieted down the rattle over bumps.

I saw where a guy used a piece of feeler gauge for a shim to tighten one up. Mine rattles a bit on bumps so it may need the o rings replaced. You'd think they would last longer than 9,700 miles.

My KO, K1 & believe K3 rattled over bumps too. Not sure if you were aware Honda did have a tech bulletin on the fix. They suggested .1mm or .2mm shims for the lower pivot point. I had to do a dealer locator to find some, but it did the trick.

Going on 51 years L0L! It was bought around Christmas 1969, first owner wanted the newest model so they sold him a sandcast with a 1970 title. The diecast sold next is titled as a 69.

Im amazed the 51 yr old O rings were still even there, must have been a tad deteriorated!
