What’s on your keychain?
« on: November 26, 2020, 04:52:52 AM »
Maybe I’m weird but I kind of like keychains and some people have interesting stories about them. I made (but since lost) a keychain out of some weird metal piece I ran over that got stuck in my truck tire. My grandfather had a keychain from a motel where he was robbed at gunpoint.

This is mine for the 650 I picked up from the mayor in New Jersey. Not at all interesting but I’m probably not going to replace it. I do kind of like that it says Kawasaki though.

As a good practice though, I’d avoid showing the actual keys. People can use the number off it and get a new set or even cut new keys from just pictures.

I do love that I went keyless on my cafe build with the Motogadget thing. Works so good and I have hidden a few glass vial “keys” in different jackets I wear too so it’s super handy.

Nothing cooler than buying a one owner bike and the keys are on a key chain from the dealer it was purchased at.  I dig old dealership stickers and vanity plate frames too.  All the cool old mom and pop dealerships in my area have been bought out by huge conglomerates, so it it is nice to remember the good old days.
If it works good, it looks good...

Agreed, I really like the 70’s kind of cheap and crappy keychains from independent dealers. I went on a little eBay binge looking at what people are selling. Didn’t buy anything but still cool to see.

This came with a 2006 bike I recently purchased. Its only 14 years old but you have to start somewhere. One owner with the logbook all filled in. The spare key still has its plastic sheath on it. I don't understand why people seem to lose this stuff.

I have just the keys to each vehicle and a fob for everything. For example the 550 is one T key on a ring with a piece of black leather that used to be a retention strap on a SIG holster. The 900F is one key on an old Boeing 767 key ring. The 750F is the key on a ring with a stainless 8mm washer. Everyone is different so I can tell them apart. With 10 bikes I had to do something to keep it all straight. ;D

Interesting little story today.  Took my kawasaki H1 out today for its longest best ride ever. Pulled up at a stop light. Looked down , no key. Bugger, anyway took it home and jumped on another bike to optimistically look for it.  Got to a railway crossing that bumped the front suspension so i pulled up there. Bugger me, there it was. Had a michellin man rubber tag on it. I doubt I would have found it without that.
The key #911 is one of the rarest out there.

I hate keys but I have one large personal key ring with keys for a dozen different things and the remote start for the car, the giant key for my car, a damn COVID key thing, the Motogadget fob, and the cremation tag from the first pup I had to say goodbye to.

The work keychain isn't quite as bad but I do have a silly amount of keys for the school I work at like locker master, allen wrench for exit push style doors, another COVID key (I try not to touch door knobs and the like at school), a whistle, etc.

I do use a brass belt hook from these guys on both sets of keys that I love because I hate having keys in my pocket more than I hate having keys in general. Like George Costanza and pencils, I'm always afraid I'll puncture my scrotum.

Most of my bikes have no keychain and the key stays in the ignition when in the garage.

However, I've had this wooden keychain on my "Big Bang" K4 for many  years, it was made by a fellow forum member...

And the keychain for my Z1 900, just "because"!

And I really prefer original keys, not generic copies.

Attached to my CBX key.  After 30 + years, the key is pretty worn (I can pull the key out while the bike is running).  I reckon a butter knife would work in the ignition these days!

In 1989 I served as tank technical officer the mandatory one year in the Czechoslovakia army.  On vehicle park guard duty I noticed a key ring on one of the many sets of keys hanging in the locker, so I swapped that ring for another ring.

That ring I used ever since - my first CZ250, CB750F, my CJ7 Jeep in USA, Dorothy and now The Red.

The other set is 900 - it came with the red tag from MoMo so I kept it on.

Here are a few of my motorcycle key rings.

I like the old Honda dealer wings, I need to find a few more, in different colors for the other key rings. I have never been to either of the dealerships on these tags, but the keys were on them when I bought the bikes.

Oh I like this wings. And interesting, the font used for Tom’s Cycle is the same font on my Kawasaki keychain in my first post.

Maybe I’ll have a look on eBay for one of these. One from CT would be cool.

I'm not a big fan of having all my keys on a big ring or anywhere not on a vehicle, so they are usually in the ignition on all my vehicles so I always know where they are.  I usually keep the last owner's key ring that comes with the bike and keep it with that bike ,if it isn't stupid looking or comes from some exotic dance bar. My most memorable one is an empty m16 bullet and brass (I hope it's empty) mounted on my camo bike (550f )that I did transfer from another bike just because  it looks right on it.  Yes it does scratch the paint off the handle bar mounts but so far hasn't gone off. Luckily I haven't gotten a grenade on a bike yet.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

I'm a keyless-go kind of guy. when my vehicle doesn't have that feature, I leave the keys in it; cupholder, ignition, pocket of the door. If someone wants to steal my ride, they can have it if they can live through the encounter. It's insured and I can replace. Hate keys. Don't even have them to our house, my shop, or the wife's chastity belt any longer  ;D

Hahahaha, wife's chasity belt...crack me up!
I dare say she loves you too much to cheat on you and heaven help anyone who tries to force themselves or try to convince her to cheat.
