CB500F Frame CAD
« on: November 27, 2020, 05:28:49 AM »
I posted this over on my project thread, but figured I'd share it on the main forum in-case anyone finds it useful.

Through a combination of 3D scanning with my phone and hand measurement, I made a "quick" model of my CB500 frame, as none appear to exist online.

The model omits some details entirely (eg. smaller brackets, center stand mounts, side cover tabs, etc), and I kind of phoned it in on some of the details to simplify modeling (especially towards the rear hoop and at the various tube interfaces), but it's reasonably accurate - certainly accurate enough to design body work around which was my intended use.

I'm providing the model for others enjoyment, but use at your own risk and verify dimensions for yourself :)

Here's a link to the 3D model viewable online:

And also a link for the model in stl, stp and sldprt formats, as well as a dxf of the drawing shown above:

Enjoy!

A beautiful 3D model rendering.
What do you intend to print with the larger build dimension? With the scan and model, you can probably print a pretty cool fairing

My intended use is for fairing, seat and tank designs, and eventually 3D print some molds for composite layup.

I may also take a crack at making a custom air cleaner box for my CRs as a side project, but that will probably be a folly, CFD isn't a big area of expertise for me, haha.

For more detailed fit up, I plan to at least scan the engine and put together less detailed models of the forks and swingarm (on my build, they are from an R6 and a CBR600 F2, respectively, so perhaps not quite as useful to the general group).
