Accelerator pump clearance
« on: March 19, 2022, 01:26:42 PM »
PD50B carbs and I'm wondering what the correct way to measure the clearance between accelerator pump rod and the stop. Should be 0.4-0.6mm but is this with the big idle speed screw back out the way out so that the throttle is closed? I figured the gap will be closer or closed once I set the proper idle speed and may not be in spec anymore.

Just make sure the pump has spec clearance at idle to ensure a reasonable stroke with no binding at the max travel. If you are concerned run the larger 6mm max spec gap with the big common idle screw backed out and recheck at idle, and adjust to minimum if too tight, that should make you feel better. It does not need the crude water pistol fuel pump squirting gasoline during very low throttle settings. I simply set mine at idle in the middle of the spec. range, been that way for years. There is also no need to readjust after standard carb balancing I have found due to the minute changes involved.
