Cb77 Carb question
« on: October 01, 2021, 09:28:53 AM »
I'm rebuilding a cb77 1965 and i am now working on my carbs. I notice that the slides would need to be change.Well,i should say that they don't meet my standard of quality ;)

So i was wondering if the slides from a cb750 would fit in my carbs?
If i'm wright, they have the same diameter.
Anyone know?

Bert,
Have you checked sources like “305Forum” (wanted or for sale) or  CMSNL…?
Can’t answer your question, but I do know those cb77 slides aren’t cheap. I can only find new on CMSNL. But, you might try the 305Forum and look up “LOUDMOUSE” (Ed Moore) and give him at message about what you’re looking for he’s a great source for information and if he’s got it…he might sell it.

I think the 305 forum is down. Yeah,i know they are pricey, its a little bit for that reason why i wanted to know if the slide from the 750 work. They are also easier to find!

Well heck.
Sounds like you’ve got yourself a test and see project! The old slides are worn out? They hang up in the top of the barrel?
NOTE* I just looked at the 305 Discussion Forum and there’s an Oct. 1 2021 entry for parts wanted.

Well,i don't have cb750 slide in hand but with the pictures i found, they seem to look very identical.

I doubt they are "identical". And slides that would work have to be early model cable type, probably just as costly as 305 ones? You would have to do a careful comparison of course.
What is wrong with yours? Mine have some chrome wear but still work ok.
eBay often has a lot of CB77 parts... Haven't looked lately though.

I did not take pictures but yeah, the chrome is gone at few places, it show a lot of wear. Thats why my first idea was to replace the slides.
But if you run yours and you don't have any problems, i think i'll try my carbs that way.

Thanks!

Sure give it a try. I had both slides that showed wear but only hung up if the throttle was cranked WOT instantly. Now that’s a scary ride. But when throttled normally, I never had an issue. Just be sure the cable routing is correct and your cables are lubed with no kinks and in good shape. I thought to try a stiffer return spring, but never got around to it.
Another thing to check is  “Y” where the single throttle cable splits off into two. Open that junction up, clean it and lightly grease it up.

Just to add confusion, there are at least 3 carb types used on the CB77. Super early ones had a weird "power circuit" that I've never seen and don't understand. Next ones had the early casting but the power circuit stuff undrilled. Then ones without that extra stuff cast in. I think the slides, jets, and needles are all the same but don't know for sure.
