Hiding rusty forklegs without using oe light ears, cb500
« on: December 04, 2020, 08:16:11 AM »
I guess most of have come across some rusty upper forklegs. Some of them gets replaced, others get cleaned up if they are structuraly intact (and perhaps with some added rust protection), then hidden behind the lamp holders. Im scraping together a bike with "left-over parts" laying around and looking for a clever way to hide it without using a the lampholders. Have been looking around google for some ideas, but every custom build comes down to three things. Oem light ears, new tubes or just some kind of modern fork. I could just paint like in the thread included below, just curious if there are any other options. I fear once i get new fork tubes, everything else "needs" to be new aswell. Any ideas?

Shrink tubing between the fork trees.

Similar to shrink tubing, what about a length of bicycle tube stretched over it?

Put a sleeve over it metal or plastic pipe may work. . Use glue or silicone below trees, setscrew......bad idea.

I've read here lots of times that the easy answer is to add some chromed plumbing pipe between the triples on each side. Some fat o-rings top and bottom and maybe some thin ones inside and you're rattle free.

The type of chromed pipe you see beneath a wall mounted sink. Home depot or Lowe's has it, there must be a close fitting size since I've seen it many times here.
