personally I think that anything you do will help performance.  a cam will increase horsepower if you choose the right one.  you will probably hear from the crowd that thinks it is a waste of time to 836 a motor and not cam, port and polish the head and have hp con rods. well, look at the thousands of broke guys that just run an 836 piston kit and have noticed a power increase.  It is all about what you want the motor to do for you, and how much you can afford.  The cam in question probably has longer duration and or slightly higher lift, so it shouldn't hurt your 836.  But when you install it, give it a couple of turns with everything bolted in place to listen for anything hitting, or plastigauge it.

Check Axel's website - SatanicMechanic. He just added a couple cam manufacturer's specs to what he already had. He has the most comprehensive cam info I've seen.

Most aftermarket cams run way looser lash.

.004- .006 inch being common but I've head of guys running as loose as  .0010- .012 inch on radical motors.

I think my Kenny Harmon D grind ran @ .006

Not sure but I think my RC 315C runs @ .008? It's noisy for sure, especially when cold.
