A little help with CB750 rubber part ID and tank question
« on: December 03, 2020, 03:40:32 PM »
I have this rubber part in first 2 pics, not sure where it goes. I may have two.  Similar to the gas tank mount but I have those and the hole is smaller.

Also my tank had filler in the neck area, and comparing to my friend's tank, there is a groove there, 'something' happened and it has me curious.  Seems a strange place to get put out of shape but anything can happen...

Yeah good point - could be that, I have a Suzuki GS and it may be from that pile, tried to keep parts separated and am down to the last few, but stuff happens.  That GS came with piles of spares so I'll examine again.

Not for your bike?

Something up with that tank looks repaired. Be carefull...... the tank mounts look crooked as well.

Yeah Frank, good eyes. My weakest skill, if one could call me skilled, is metal work. Looks like 'something' bashed hard on the tank to push both the mounts inward, so symmetrical. I think both balls were mashed flat  ;D.    I have that spare orange tank to use temporarily while I sort it out. It doesn't seem to be un-recoverable but will see.

What is the inside diameter of the rubber parts, about 7/8"? If so, my guess is they are handlebar end-caps.
The mounts on the tank look to be spread out at the bottom; how do they fit on the frame? The tank may have been "butterflied" from being pressurized, which might explain the damage at the front?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
