Man, just do a luggage rack with a top box and a set of saddle bags.

Even better, buy an old Goldwing or other touring bike with built in luggage/storage.

Why? This is useful, fun to ride and far more capable than any Goldwing. Besides that, it doesn't affect the handling at all, where a topbox with any weight in it does, in a bad way! And it takes just 10 seconds to take it off....

I agree, way easier for us creaking bone types to get on and off a bike without bags and stuff on the seat while touring.
If you spend any time at a  location , unhitch , lock your trailer to something,  and have  your normal bike back..

One requirement for me would be being able to sit on it , during stops ..

Cute! Haha. I wonder what it's max load is.
Just found the ad which is local to me on SoCal. $1000 and load capacity is about 100lbs

While that does sound low, its probably at least double the capacity of any trunk. Bike bags always rated low.
I have ridden beside one of these, they work fine.. my hitch with them is , I feel it would look better if wheel was sunk into trunk further. .lose a bit of capacity, but get the weight down..lower c of g.

Lots of info here:

http://www.singlewheel.com

This forum has a section for trailers too, unfortunately the sole forum admin passed away a few years ago. Still quite a bit of info to read as a guest without logging in.

Rob,that one-wheel trailer in the pics you have there looks a little like a cooler:is it insulated ?
What motorcycle is that you're using to tow it with ?

No, it is just a fiberglass shell, and it is hitched to the '87 CBR1000F I've been riding since new ;)

Lucky for me I'm not experienced enough to know my old goldwing isn't capable enough while I'm chasing vintage R90s's through the backroads of N. Carolina.  Sometimes I even have to check the mirrors to make sure the trailer is still attached.  I reserve the space in the top box for paper maps and the helmet when parked to keep the cg low.

Any particular reason you would not shorten  the hitch bar by at least a foot ?
Or do you pack, lawn chairs, bicycle or a barbeque ?

I could shorten the tongue, but it works well the way it is and the need to get tongue-weight just right is diminished too.  There hasn't been enough need to do it yet. I forget the minimum length to width ratio for good tracking but I am over it by a significant amount.  Tows great..."don't fix what isn't broke".    Haven't run the trailer wheel over a curb yet either.

I need to learn more about length to width ratio.
If I do run a trailer,  I will have a cooler mounted ahead of the box, to access without opening box. .
And fairly big diameter tires that are rated  for at least 75 mph..  if you ran say 18 inch bike rims ,vs say 12 inch, would the gyro effect help or hinder trailer performance.?

I can only speak from experience on tire size and trailer performance; that said, here's what i've found.  I've run a 1000 coleman camper with 8" tires for 10,000 miles at speeds up to 85 mph (behind my truck) with no issues at all.  First 1000 miles the tires were near their load capacity so I'm not surprised I had two tires fail.  Switched to next load range higher (c) and never had another flat.  The teardrop has 12" tires based on others suggestions.  They weigh more, have greater inertia for starting and stopping and I run them at 20 psi because the trailer loaded (with cooler inside) is less than 230 lbs.  I can't see any reason to have 12" wheels, but I have no issues at speeds up to 85mph.  I have toyed with the idea of making an axle that would accept cast alloy front wheels off a '83 wing to match the bike.  I think that would look cool.
I carry the cooler inside for aerodynamics, but haven't been able to prove the advantages yet.

Frank, you could open the cooler lid with a cable for an air flap speed brake! Kidding of course.

I carry a little Oscar cooler , no hinge on lid..  . Often stop  have a drink or snack . Want to be able to sit on the trailer then.
I have a Cushman scooter body I was going to use.
I like the idea if matching wheels , but 18 or 19 might be a bit tall ..depends on how I sit on it too.
Will post a pic of the body similar to mine..

I think I will 'have to set it up like the scooter with a hitch, instead of front wheel.  And handlebars,  that way you could sit on it for campground  tours.

I saw that trailer, we added a small fairing to the load at my house, put it on the deck in front of the bike if I remember right. I was impressed and worried the next few days until I heard he made it. What an adventure.

Don,I meant to ask if you took a picture of me towing that trailer.

That scooter would make a really cool one-wheel trailer!  The body could be extended into the footwell for greater capacity.

The problem with one wheel is sitting on it when you stop , and moving trailer around when unhitched.
It definitely  looks better though.  On 2 wheels , closer together , I assume us worse than wider apart..
I surely like the aspect of throw everything in the trailer and leave, vs pack carefully and hope nothing falls off.. like now
Always nice to have food and drinks handy  for them great places to stop along the way..
And the idea of locking trailer to something and having your everyday bike to use once it's unhitched..
