I bought one for my GL1000.  It looks the part and fit well but isn't as comfortable as stock.  Eventually I'm going to reupholster the original seat but with the repop seat it's not an urgent project.

Care to post a link to the seat you're talking about? The seat I bought for my K8 was the closest I could find to the stock stepped seat, but it's not quite perfect -- quite a bit slimmer and more "cafe racer" style. I'd be interested to find a truly stock looking seat.

I was able to select a style of seat from texavina and ask them to make it thicker per my specifications. No extra cost and it showed up exactly to the measurements I sent them. Yes I agree the cafe seats are too thin.

My seat from Vietnam was made of thinner metal and much firmer foam than the original - when I complained they said it was an exact match to the original foam density.... I hated it so much I gave it away to another member here. So in my opinion not good value because of being very uncomfortable, although it does look like they went to a lot of trouble using flat sheet and a welder to make the base have the same contours as an original seat - so I didn't feel it would be right to ask for any money back!

That's exactly why I bought the seat I did despite it not being the classic style -- I intended to just use it for the seat pan and have it rebuilt with a repro seat cover...the pan, thin or not, is very good quality for a repro IMO.

Am i the only one that finds the oem seat foam is often too soft?  I have found that firmer foam, properly shaped is much more comfortable on long rides

I picked up a stock seat from a member in VT, if anyone is interested in trading for one of these I may be interested.

I've refoamed a stock K0 seat and tried a few repro's The DSS seats are nice, the pan and appearance are good and I think maybe they got past the Honda logo ban.  Although I believe them to be more firm, I only have old used, old unused and at least one NOS K4 seat to compare to.  My butt thinks a brand new K4 seat was softer but that was long ago.
There was a repro company that sold thick non seamed (maybe boat vinyl) seats, I have a k7 and once had a gl1000 they did and hated them immensely. The foam shape and hard vinyl caused you to slide forward constantly. I cut up the foam on the gl1000 seat at Mt. Rushmore campground and the 15 hour ride home was much better.  If your thighs carry some of your weight the ride is a lot better.

Are you referencing OEM seats in general, or K7/8 specifically?

The OEM seat on my K8 is the most comfortable I have ever sat on, even on many long days.

The most UNCOMFORTABLE long day seat was on a 750 Magna.

...in general.  I am not sure if I have ever sat upon a K7/8, certainly not for any length of time.  But the size, thickness, and foam construction certainly seems generally similar to other oem seats of this era.
