sooooo the rear calipers are hard to find and expensive as #$%*. I didnt know that.

Rear CB750F calipers are getting more difficult to find.  Check with Bill Benton (on the forum).  I believe he has a 77-78 caliper.  You will also need the stabiizer bar that keeps the caliper in position on the disc.  It mounts to both the caliper and swingarm.

I was able to score some cheap parts off of eBay, they were scattered in amongst the ridiculously priced parts. I actually bought a second complete set up because I was able to part it together for so cheap. 2 FULL sets of brake plate and calipers for around 140 bucks.

I checked in with my parts guy and he informed me he was able to obtain a title for the 78'f super sport frame that I got the donor front end, swing arm, and comstar wheels from, go figure.  So, it looks like I will have gotten this 78' roller for around $200-$250. I'll collect the frame and swap everything back over, get started on the engine rebuild and complete it before I think about color schemes. - All in all, I'm happy that this bike is pretty much figured out and glad I wont be seeking out an earlier frame and chopping it, I rather chop up a 78' frame anyway.

'That leaves me with the 75' roller that Im picking up at the end of march...I have another f tank on the shelf but thats it. No motor, electrical, nothing. The only thing I know i'll do with this bike is convert it to a dual disk with drilled rotors front and back and seeking out a nice set of rims for this bike as well. Another thing, Ill have to weld on the mounts for the earlier oil tank and side covers.

Since this thing is just going the race bike direction/appearance, I havent been able to stay away from the idea of a ARHMA inspired race bike....when i say that im leaning more towards color schemes...some yellow and red bikes come to mind..the thing that is drawing me in is the matching frame and tank combo....it can be very very good and work well or just be ugly as sin. I really like the all yellow and idk why. I was looking at the black f tank and since its nicer i think it should go to the 75' roller im picking up instead and this bike can get the spare f tank I have, which means i can paint it.

Of the two bike pics you've posted, the "T Rex Racing" bikes (built here in Melbourne, Oz by Rex Wolfenden) look way better. Rex builds race winning bikes up to 1200cc and 140(+) BHP based on heavily modified CB750's, and his bikes have dominated the Post Classic Racing scene here in Oz for the last 20 years or so. I think one of his bikes, albeit with lights, would be the ultimate Cafe Racer.

I paid $500 for a hand polished donor motor, heck of a better deal than the donor I originally planned to purchase for $300 pictured at the beginning of the thread. I'm not sure if Phil will want to bore this motor out, but the price of rebuild is going to depend on how much of it I do myself. I was considering just letting him do it so I have a fully rebuilt and polished motor from him and his brother. It's getting the cases split so I will be able to put everything on the polishing wheel and touch everything up. I haven't decided on a color scheme yet but the motor and the airbox are going to be the focal points of the bike.

I'm ready for an expensive set of rear shocks and really wish YSS or WORKS had an easier way of ordering their products in the states. I'm eyeballing some black and gold ohlins from cognito for $775, I figured I'll always keep them and just use them on my touring bike. Cognito sells another ohlins, black and silver but they are sold out with no price listed, anyone know how much they cost? I'll picture both below. I'm looking to put these one my mix and match build. I see 4into1 now carries those chinese shocks in 330mm and 360mm, ill be getting a set of those for $110 just to have around. They are a good set to have around for mock up and test riding..i like the taller 360mm shocks.

 I'm going to pick up the titled 75" SS roller tomorrow afternoon, the guy said he has a nice vintage fork brace for the bike also, im hoping its something I actually want. It's a full roller, all brake hardware included - charging me $600...I figured for what it costs me to source a SS spoked rear disc hub and hardware it would probably cost more. Ill have some pictures later.

I see 4into1 now carries those chinese shocks in 330mm and 360mm, ill be getting a set of those for $110 just to have around. They are a good set to have around for mock up and test riding..i like the taller 360mm shocks.

Please post if you do get those adjustable shocks from 4into1. I'd be interested to hear what you think about them. I asked about measurements regarding the clevis and top eye on 750's and 900's in this thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,185245.msg2145095.html#msg2145095 but got no answer. My stock ones on the CB650 are 335 mm and I am tempted to buy those 350-360 mm ones if they fit regarding the sizes of the eye and clevis mounts.

Here is the 75" roller I picked up, this bike fell in my lap just as another titled roller did while i was only really seeking out one frame. This frame will roll into the corner until the winter. Between the two titled rollers I paid $800, $200 for the 78' and $600 for the 75'. The fork brace wasnt what I was expecting but it was still something I liked, when installed it had one of those thin pointy race fenders on there, it should look good on this cafe racer, I wanted to avoid a front fender on there anyway to avoid adding more bulk near the chin scoop.

I just purchased a 750 front hub laced to an 18" rim with rotor and axle for 160 delivered. Now I have the wheels sorted out for this build as well. Ill either keep the stock rims and just paint them or Ill try to find a fancy sext of rims by winter. The spokes alone are going to run you $200 for that hub to rim size, worth it.

I've been lucky and been able to get the last 3 titled frames from the same couple of guys. When I first started building the old guys at the shop would call me "easy money" every time i came to buy stuff...lol.

Craigslist has been fairly bare for over a year now in Metro Detroit area, everything seems to be on ebay or just not for sale. Most of the titled frames Ive picked up have been in other builders storage and they know they wont get to it.

I think this is the trend, look at Terry buying up all the low hanging fruit and quickly turning them back into reliable bikes. I've got a k3 and a k8 and can't seem to get motivated since I went back to work last June. Always on call sucks but it's easy money too.

Craigslist has been fairly bare for over a year now in Metro Detroit area, everything seems to be on ebay or just not for sale. Most of the titled frames Ive picked up have been in other builders storage and they know they wont get to it.

The change to charge for craigslist motorcycle ads is what tanked it, especially in the Detroit area.  I've had semi-luck on Marketplace, but there's a LOT of untitled stuff out there.  Michigan isn't too bad to get a title, but it's still an EXTREME pain in the a$$ especially with the COVID restrictions at the SOS.

my buddy and I just registered a BMW two days ago, it wasn't bad. You can also run the vin number online for about 12 bucks and it will let you know if the bike has any debts, that way you know before you even go there.

Oh yeah I forgot about the charge per listing now, even marketplace is bare. Im all over Ohio, Indiana and Chicago because I travel that way often anyway. Im just glad there are enough serious builders and collectors in MI. Ive grabbed some my best parts in Ohio and they seem to part out more modern sport bikes for some reason. Getting a new title for a bike here has never been achieved by me, I know two guys who know someone there and they are able to acquire them.

Same-day service

Same-day service is available for customers requesting their own driving or vehicle records.

Customers needing same-day service for driving records only may visit any branch office.

Customers may obtain both driving and vehicle records at the Secretary of State Secondary Complex. Same-day service is not available for requests that require microfilm searches.


I tell them my bikes are cheap broken down lumps, as far as values I just keep prices low and i give accurate value estimations to my insurance company...not sure if that answers your question.
