I kinda miss beating the tar out of my muscle cars. Had 2 of them, a 1963 (pre-smog controls!) Galaxie convertible with the 390X FE (solid lifters, long-duration cam, 750 CFM 4-bbl, aka "Police Interceptor Special" package, rated then 375 HP), hard to keep tires on that one. Also bought a new El Camino in 1972, via the Chevy Perfromance Shop in Detroit, back when you could order what you wanted from the factory and just had to pay for it: the base El Camino was $1850, this one came to me at $4340 and took 3 months to get: 402 big block, cowl inducted 760 CFM quad, spoked lightweight wheels, Muncie 4-speed, 1100-lb clutch (argh...) buckets (but I did add A/C...), and posi with adjustable rear suspension, SS kit with 'stripes' on the horizontal surfaces (which came off in chunks 3 months later). Sadly, this one could pass anyting but a gas station (4-5 MPG city, 12 MPG hiway) and turned out to be the biggest, most unreliable POS I ever owned: 37k miles and 13 months later I parked it in a public place with "For Sale" on it (because the warranty was over) and sold it to the first guy who handed me cash for it (the next day). It spent as much time in the Chevy shop as I spent driving it.
