Guess my tool wasn't sufficient haha

No Sir it was not. However, I truly felt badly about it not being in the same shape as it was when you loaned it to me. I made you a new one of the same proportions and upgraded it to stainless fasteners. I am sorry. I cannot stand it when I loan something to someone and they return it in a condition that is worse than when I gave it to them. I will drop it off at your place soon. Thank you again for your generosity.

Hey now. Nobody understands and appreciates the unwritten code of borrowing something like a tool and returning it in better condition if possible (at least a good wiping down) more than me.

I got the hub and caliper back from vapor blasting. They have sat around for a while now as I chewed on what I wanted to do in terms of coating/protecting them. I've gone back and forth quite a bit. Part of me wishes I had not had them vapor blasted and that I just kept them as they were so they matched the rest of the bike a bit better but that ship has sailed. I do not care for the look after vapor blasting at all. I just think it looks too much like silver spray paint. Here they are.

caliper1 by Chris Neumann, on Flickr

hub1 by Chris Neumann, on Flickr

hub2 by Chris Neumann, on Flickr

They are currently at a place in Colorado Springs called Luftkraft. These guys do some amazing work. The hub is going to be ball burnished in a vibratory polisher. I believe it will match the rest of the bike much better and I can have them do the same with the front hub when it's time to rebuild that wheel. This is a part off a Porsche motor that was done 10 years ago with the same process.

BB by Chris Neumann, on Flickr

We discussed powder and cerakote for the caliper. After seeing some things that were done with cerakote, I just didn't care for that look either. So the caliper will get powder and I'm going to have them dial back the gloss just a bit so that it doesn't stick out as being the only really freshly painted piece on the motorcycle.

You've got to be about the only guy that doest like the look of vapor.  But I get it if it doesnt go with the rest of the bike.

I would tend to agree but (again) those are my tastes. I am looking forward to seeing the version 3 come together with whichever finishes Chris chooses.

Finally was able to get over and pick up the hub and caliper. The difference in the finish on the hub is subtle but I like it much better than the vapor blast looked.

Just catching up here, nice thread.
I know what you mean about the retainers, some are a real challenge. One of mine came out very hard. I was surprised when the new one also went in hard, very hard, I ruined one retainer. If I go in again I may look for a new different hub. I was very careful to clean up any thread damage, use a lot of lube, etc. I made a good tool that clamped tight to the retainer through the hub, it still went in hard. It was almost like the internal thread was cut with a worn out tool when it was made. I got it in but it was pucker factor all the way.

Jeff you only missed it because I hadn't said anything about it yet but these will eventually go on. Might be a bit though only because I got so much crap going on that finding time to work on the bike has been challenging. What master cylinder would you recommend using? Also need to order up your newly designed tach delete piece which looks gorgeous.

Believe it or not, this was a small victory the other night.

Managed to get the bearings pressed into the front hub last night for another small step in the right direction. Gotta say it's very nice working on stuff that looks so new. Maybe today I'll get the retainer ring installed.

Ah yes, that would explain it!
As for a suitable Master Cylinder;  That largely depends on what your after for performance, lever feel, Style, etc.  For most general-purpose / casual rider builds, I personally prefer a good used NISSIN brand 14mm aka 5/8" CBR master with the built in brake switch & integrated reservoir.  Those have a basic traditional look but will also eliminate the need for the old pressure brake switch and junction block that mounts on the lower triple-clamp. Also most of them have an adjustable grip range lever.  You will also find a lot of cheep Chinese knock offs that look the part, but are basically disposable.
If your going for a more compact, modern, performance unit with more adjustability, there are some nice radial masters available. Some can be VERY expensive, but can also be found in good used condition. (These are especially helpful if you have clip-ons or limited handle bar space.) Most of them will have a remote reservoir (little cup on a hose) but there are some that come with a nice discreet integrated reservoir.

If you would like to order that Tach delete; You can contact me directly at jstephens7@wi.rr.com  Also; I have a new & improved Speedometer delete, if you're converting to a Modern gauge.

The rear hub just needs the retainers installed and they should be here early this week. And I'm sorry Jeff, I mispoke. I have a tach delete plug, I'm in need of your speedometer cable delete piece. Also...the MC I currently have is a Nissin 14mm model. I've attached a pic. Think that would be acceptable to use? Then I'd only have to figure out the lines. Thank you for the help.

That MC you have should work just fine.  For the lines; I have used Core Moto many times with good results. (I like that the banjo fittings can swivel so you don't have to try and figure out what direction they are pointing when ordering)

Thanks for the links Jeff. I also wanted to ask about you drilling the 750 rotor to match the fronts. Is that something you would do?
