Anyone know how to take this off?
« on: December 26, 2020, 04:26:37 PM »
I'm stuck around the black wire. Should I be able to pull that black rubber light socket cover? On the other end of the wire where u assume it was last connected, would be a pain to get in there and redo the wiring when done. I think that's the only way. Just double checking. I'm taking this bar off to bend it back into shape. It's a little bent

Eeh, never mind. Pretty sure I just need to cut somewhere then splice it later

I'm not speaking for anyone else but from the pics I can't even tell what you're working on. Maybe a pic from further back would help next time. Maybe because I'm not really intimately familiar with your particular bike.

I just uploaded the last Pic that didn't upload in the above post. I don't know exactly what the part is called, the bars on the side of rear below the seat that at the end hold the rear lights. I want to remove one that's bent out of shape a bit but it's held on y the wires, the black one and basically I just need to either cut or disconnect where it is originally spliced with other wires. No biggie. Just a little hairy process to get it off. Actually I don't need to remove it all the way, just disconnect where it connects at the back, leave it on the top of the strut and turn it upwards, then stick a bar through the top of it, where the rear light wires go through and twist it back into shape. It's a solid bar so I'm not sure how easy it will be. I'll find out once I get to it...

I'd rather not x but a possibility... Actually that would be a lot of grinding.

Actually, as I go forward with any repairs that involve electrical, I'm wondering if there a feasible option of replacing the permanent splicing of wires with more convenient detachable connectors, little plugs or something. Would make working around electrical components a lot easier definitely

That wire will have a bullet connector farther in towards the loom, new brackets dont come with wires so it must have. Just follow the lead till you find it

These guys? This is what the bike has? And these are reconnectable? If so I had no idea. That's great

Those aint Honda ones, you can see connecors in the pic with the big hole, did you honesly think Honda fitted a loom with everything hard wired on the assembly line?

I'm ignorant of this stuff. If I had to guess they hard CONNECTED it somehow. But looks like they're heat shrink wrapped. So I can just disconnect these and reconnect them? I've never messed with these connections.

Speaking of heat shrink wraps. I've bought some in the past and used a torch to hear them and they all inevitably just burn, not shrink. Is there a skill to it or do you just need the proper heat gun tool? A hair dryer didn't work at all.

you will need a hot air gun to shrink the tubing properly - go to the paint dept at Lowes or Home Depot and get a hot air paint stripper gun - they are cheap - use it on low and don't put your hand in the way!

If you are looking at the original Honda bullet connectors, there is no shrinkwrap. Just a rubber, outer case. The female socket stays in the black rubber tube, the male 1/2 of the connector comes out whenyou pull them apart. Assembly is the reverse...

Juntjoo, do you not have a manual ? Have you ever looked at or seen one ?
Do you ever research the work you plan on performing ? By that I mean try to figure it out , without posting a forum question every time ?

Yeah, manual doesn't help with certain basics like this I'm not familiar with.

Well if you changed the head light bulb ever, or had headlight out of the  shell you must have noticed the connectors.
The 650 is the least familiar of the SOHC  bikes to most of us here on the forum.
So the pics you posted on this topic, most of us did not know what was shown in the pics.
But interesting  that the pics showed some of the wiring connects Honda uses throughout the bike.
I am sure if you look in the manual at removing the signal light (think that IS what you were doing ?) It will tell you to disconnect  the wires.l

No, you just need to unscrew them. But the socket would still be there holding that bar in place preventing me from moving it. These manuals are basic. Messing with wires isn't. I'm going deep!

1. What manual are you using? Most of the ones I have are very complete.
2. Removing a turn signal or even a grab bar is about as basic as it gets.
3. These tasks are barely scratching the surface and certainly not “deep”.

Clymers. Turn signal yes, as one would need to do that but grab bar no. Not that I've found. As far as maintenance and typical repairs what would you need to take off the grab bar for

Well I'd have to agree with you that that is common enough a repair, which BTW it was the PO! not me, but clymers apparently doesn't agree. Plus mine is the rare model with special sections for it. But it's a pretty good manual I'd have to say. If the pics were a bit higher resolution in color that would be awesome
