Be careful when buying the aftermarket filter bolts.

I bought this one from 4into1 through Amazon.. The pressure relief valve is crap. The plungers does not fit into the bolt snug enough to block anything and the spring is too weak.

Yep, they are junk.
One I bought had the spring pin extending out one side just enough to score the hell out of the filter housing.
Garbage.

I'm running one of these on my 750. I've never looked inside one or knew they had moving parts. What is wrong with it?

Jake.... in theory, if your filter gets totally plugged, the relief valve should allow oil to bypass the element. Light spring pressure, and a poor seal, could allow full time filter bypass. Not a good idea. There were lots of good replacements made years ago, I have one actually “made in the USA”, but some new stuff is crap.

Honda used a 12mm head on the originals, in an effort to prevent over torquing, but usually it was just impossible to remove when too tight... look for a good, used original, and torque lightly.

The problem is that with a loose fit of the bypass valve, it can allow crap to pass through the valve instead of the filter.

The main reason why I bought it was that the 12mm head on the stock one was chowdered. (not by me)  I don't have any problem with the 12mm bolt.  While some may over torque, the big issue it that they can stick. A few taps with a brass hammer on the 12mm hex and it always pop loose.  As far as I can tell you can still get OEM Honda bolts but they are about 50 bux.
