I think they are safe to drill out, i think you can get at the back of the threads too. If so squirt there.
And try to use lefthand drill. If you can get at tte back a stright drill will get it out.. after you take drive  off.

The trick is to order 4 or 5 correct looking screws, cuz most are buggered anyway..

I knew you had been on many rides, but was not counting, did not realize how many it was..

Thanks Frank, yep it’s been a great year for my CB750’s, I think I’ll sell the F2 because it’s just not my thing, and hasn’t been ridden in months, but I’m looking forward to my next CB750 build, the hotrod 970cc K1.

I’ve got a new set of LH drill bits with “Easy Outs”, that to my surprise actually worked when I tried them on the Velo-Solex last week, so I might try drilling/Easy Outing that screw. I’m jumping between jobs at the moment, as I’ve also started assembling the new, improved 1969 Suzuki T350 engine, as I now have almost everything I need to build a bike out of it. Prepare for yet another build thread, with many tales of misery therein.... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

does anyone have a hint for removing the little JIS countersunk screw that retains the cable in the speedo gearbox on the front wheel?

These are both hardware store screws. The hand impact with the smaller bit (#2?) got the messed up screw loose... that was a happy moment. I replaced it with the hex drive screw and later on got the correct oval head screw.
93700-05015-0A special order, I think they substituted something a little longer 5x20?
I hadn’t noticed it before, but in the blown up photo you can see the tiniest bit of tool drive remaining on the head of the screw. Just enough for the hand impact.

EDIT
I usually use the #2 bit chucked in the impact on the troublesome screw but I was too lazy to go for it so I tried with a different Phillips and buggered the screw. The #2 bit fits it like a glove and the #3 bit fits the 6mm screws, they’re all original.
5x16 was the substituted screw length. 93700-05016A

Honda made those little screws for the speedo cable connecting to front wheel out of butter ! Strip very easily. The last one I dealt with I put a good dimple in the edge of the screw head with a sharp punch and then tapped it loose going counterclockwise with a small hammer and punch/chisel. Worked well, your results may vary  ;D ;D

I will take 80 to 95 temps any day of the year for best riding temperature..  when you stop you may want to remove or open your leather jacket..
Frank, you must have some gristle in you, me not so much.
But even hot is ok if you’re moving, at a traffic light, not so good.

In summer the temps here in Melbourne soar way above 100 deg F, and I must admit that on some of those days I’ve ridden jacket-less. A few months after buying my Triumph Rocket III I installed a Jardine pipe, Power Commander III and K&N air filter, so took it to Melbourne Triumph to be dyno tested and have everything dialled in.

When I went back to collect the bike I was browsing through the Triumph clothing, and spotted a “Mesh” jacket so bought it and, as it was over 100 degrees that day was able to test if it was any cooler than my old leather “Brando” jacket I bought in 1991, and was pleasantly surprised.

While still another layer of clothing that I’d prefer not to wear, it is much comfier on a stinker of a day, than my leather jacket. It’s interesting, I have 3 jackets, the Mesh one for Summer, my Brando leather jacket for Autumn (fall) and Spring, and my waterproof DriRider jacket (and trousers) for winter.

I’m thinking about a heated vest for really cold winter days, winter here is less than a week away and even though we had brilliant sunshine on my 260 Km ride on Saturday, it was still a little chilly on the return route. ;D

#5  May 31 - 115 miles

Great day, mid-70's & overcast.

Went with my neighbor again; usual route to Bandera intending to stop for breakfast but all the Harley riders had already filled up the town so we headed on to Medina. Stopped for breakfast at a little 5-table cafe where we learned from a local that the route we were planning to follow had been washed out by several inches of rain the night before. So we decided to just loop around the back way back to Bandera and then a speed run home. My 66-year old neighbor was feeling quite adventurous as we hit 90mph in a couple of spots. Luckily he had a feeling and we slowed down just before cresting a hill where DPS was waiting to hand out a high-speed award.

Saw this little truck thing at the cafe. Guess it's an Audi based on the hubcaps. No other badges on it...

Cheers

Great pics mate, and I like that little "Ute" (Utility Vehicle) as they're known here. I didn't know Audi made utes, but nowadays it could be a rebadged VW, or even something Asian. Enjoy that warm weather, it's sunny here today, but will be lucky to break into the 60's, which won't be much fun for me when I do some more bike work later this afternoon. ;D

Ride #3 130 miles

Perfect day for a ride today. It’s been 10 days since I last had a ride.... too long! The woods are lush, every shade of green is present. The trees have bridged above the road blocking the sun, but only intermittently. The sensation of speed is enhanced as you move along sun shade sun shade so 60 mph feels like 100.
Whitmore Lake is flat, no breeze, no boat wakes, no skiers. The CB is running tip top and handling very well with the new tires and suspension work.

Well I'm glad I got my 23 rides in while I could, as we've been in lockdown for a week, and it's just been announced that it's been extended for another 7 days from midnight tomorrow night. Great...........

There are only 5 reasons I can leave my house for, but the current 5km (3 mile) max distance I can travel has been extended to 10 Km (6 miles) so as one of the 5 reasons is to buy groceries, I'm gonna ride to a store 10 Km's away, buy a banana, ride 10 Km home, eat it, realise I'm still hungry, so ride 10 Km to another store and buy an apple, ride 10 km home, eat that, ride 10 Km to another store and buy a coke, ride home drink that, decide that I need some dessert, rinse, and repeat.......

By the time I get thru several courses, followed by the wine and cheese platter and after dinner mints, I should get my 100 miles up, slightly boring, but still legit...... ;D

Ride #4:

116 miles of sidecar therapy.

But it was all an accident, I wanted to take the 900 out but it would not start.  Battery good but starter zip, zero, nothing.  Well, I had time to think about it in the saddle of a motorcycle - and when I got home I was able to verify that the 900 was in 1st gear; I am just not used to the fance safety features.  ;D

#6 - June 5 - 102 miles

Another beautiful day for a ride! High 70's, slight breeze, partly cloudy.

Rode all over creation today it seemed even though it was just barely over 100 miles.

First stop was the library to swap out a few books. This nice old lady was parking as I arrived and wanted to talk all about motorcycles and her neighbors and their motorcycles and her brother and... It was great; made me smile the whole time I was there. Anyway, left there & took Scenic Loop (pic 1) out to Boerne, across Hwy 46 to Hwy 16 and Red Bluff Creek (pic 2). Thought I had all the pics I needed for the day but then happened upon this property with flags and old farm equipment and cattle so I couldn't resist (pic 3). Stopped by Medina Lake and got a refreshment at the 4 Way Bar & Grill. Then south past the dam and out to Castroville where I turned around & headed home. Lots of riders out today.

Cheers!

Ride #4 160 miles
I went a little further today to the next town beyond Stockbridge as it was a bit early for lunch and I remembered a nice diner and a nicer piece of cherry pie there on my last visit. But unfortunately the Depot Diner was closed, and I mean permanently, with a building for sale sign in front. Leslie is a small town, 1800 residents, and I have just learned that the children’s author Holling Clancy Holling was born and raised in Leslie. If you have young children or grandchildren, get his book Paddle to the Sea and read it to them. But Leslie is not big enough to carry the Depot Diner through the COVID shutdowns, so I went on without cherry pie today. I did find a McD’s with an open dining room, it’s tough to do carry out when riding. I took the photos at the Jackson roads garage. They have had the school kids decorate the plows. The garage is near the State prison and also near the Jackson end of Seymour road: 15 miles of motorcycle bliss, good asphalt, no traffic, no stop signs, no traffic lights, nice benders both wide and tight, riding through the huge oaks that line the road.
Almost forgot, the CB turned 92000 miles today.

Really nice Kevin...but gonna have to one up ya on the plows.  Me and my buddy spotted the train track snow plow on a recent dirt bike trip up by Cadillac...so not 100 miles on an sohc4...it was 26 hard enduro miles on the sohc1 CRF450R though?

Sean, I think you have beat me on all counts. That is one big mean looking rail plow, and I know how tough dirt biking can be. Tree dodging on single track? On your feet for 26 miles? Fighting the handlebars in the deep sand? I’m sore just thinking about it.

The lockdown is over, yay! But I still can't ride more than 25 Km (15 miles) from home, so I'll have to come up with a 100 mile ride by riding out 15 miles, than doing one big circular loop. The sun's out, so I better go get the K2 ready for another ride! ;D

#7 - June 13 - 159 miles

Clear blue sky, high in the 90's.

Me & the neighbor headed out to the hills past Bandera. Tried to beat the crowd to the OST restaurant but didn't, so headed to our new breakfast spot in Medina, only to discover that they take Sundays off. Sooo went looking for an open spot in tiny, little Medina. Found "The Old Timer" country store a quarter mile further up. No hot food but they had coffee and pastries. Two locals who were riding new Triumphs came over & we talked bikes. They both had Hondas back in the day. Pic 1 was a sign outside of the store showing what turned out to be our route. It's known as the Three Sisters.

A few miles later we saw just what you expect on a ride in the Texas Hill Country: zebras. :o

Out to Utopia to get gas, then backtracked and turned on the last sister to Tarpley, turned south before Bandera and headed south to Hondo, long shot across to Rio Medina and back to the house. Bike ran like a top, we hit 100 on a couple of long straights.

Cheers

Did about 450 Saturday round trip from Chicago up to the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners, Mi (just north of Kalamazoo) for the first day of the Vintage Motorcycle Weekend. The mileage included a couple of great rides through the Michigan countryside with Ekpent and Sean Barney.

Ride 5 125 miles

Hankerd road is a special motorcycle treat. It runs between North Territorial and Patterson Lake. On a motorcycle we sit higher off of the pavement, but not high enough to see over the top of the hills on Hankerd. You’re motoring along, you can see the hill ahead of you, but you can’t see the other side. Even climbing up and up, still no view of what’s beyond. You expect the same proper and empty asphalt that you’re motoring on, but the confirmation of the sight of what’s beyond is important, very important, and it is withheld until the very last moment when your heart leaps out of your chest as you are relieved and you descend rapidly and safely on the opposite side. It happens every time.
You might catch some air if you go fast enough, I dunno what that speed is, and you would be very foolish to try without a spotter on the other side. I don’t believe that 50 year old spokes and rims are up to flying 500lb motorcycles.
My ignition switch decided to quit just after I took this photo, 50 miles from home, while using the electric start.
I wiggled the tumbler, the OP and N lamps lit, and I successfully kick started it. It quit again at North Territorial and Beck, 8 miles out. Another wiggle job and kick start and I made the last few miles until it quit in the driveway.
Made it.
New part on order, more to come, I’ll dissect the old Emgo switch. And I will make and carry an ignition switch bypass jumper from the old switch.

750 emgo switches have issues. Not sure if improved one still does... The ignition switch relay kit is good idea to change powerload from switch contacts to a good relay...

#8 - June 20 - 92 miles

Beautiful day, mid 90's, breezy

Had some time before we started Father's Day activities so I took a ride. Neighbor already had plans so I headed out alone to the hills - Castroville, Quihi, Rio Medina, Dancing Bear, Lake Hills, then Park Road 37 (pic) to Bandera Hwy, turned south on 211 and back to the house.

Bike is running great; I've put 2500 miles on it after getting it back on the road.

Cheers!

We have several roads around here that are very hilly in stretches. There is one stretch in particular that has kind of been a legend for years and is nicknamed "Roller Coaster Hills". Popular with high school guys and other speedsters. I have taken a chance a few time back in the day. Unfortunately some were not so lucky and there used to be an occasional crash.
