Also , in regard to a compression test ; the length of the hose will greatly affect the final readings ( as posted here on several occasions ) . A good cylinder will read low due to a long hose ( extra capacity ) , so have a dedicated motorcycle tester ( not a long hosed auto tester ) . You are also looking for similar readings more than anything . I rarely use my compression tester after getting my leak down tester years ago . It really pinpoints a problem and they are not that expensive . You just need a air compressor to hook it up to .
I'm curious how many engines were torn down unnecessarily due to the wrong compression tester being used ...
I also would look @ electrical components which fail after heating up and acting normally after they cool down. imho-
