cb750k5 clutch question
« on: January 07, 2021, 12:45:47 PM »
i removed the clutch yesterday because i was having problems, the clutch would not engage properly. it was slipping a bit.

this is my project

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,183427.msg2145880.html#msg2145880

i have barely run the bike (just one turn around the block) so i have not damaged anything i think. but i have ran it many times on neutral on the center stand for tunning purposes.

i removed the clutch and found two problems.

1: the concave washer (spring washer) was placed backwards. the hollow part was pointing out of the engine.
2: i went to release the lock nut which i had made a tool for and i did not even need the tool to remove it, i did by hand, its supposed to be at 32foot pounds of torque, was loose only held by the lock tab.

but who knows if they ran it like that before i got it.  there was no history to the bike. and i had to redo all the electrics and carbs to get it to run.

everything besides this two problems is on spec:
clutch springs are all 35.5mm in length (i ordered some ebc ones as they are supposed to be better but i think this ones would still work fine)
friction discs measure 3.5mm  and are not warped
friction plates have good color and are not warped either. my feeler gauge goes only to 0.04mm  but following the manual it's 0.3mm so by the manual standards they are good, the 0.04 could not fit, hondaman says you should use 0.015mm which to me seems extreme. but he knows his stuff.

the clutch basket seems fine.

my question is: could something have been damaged if they ran the bike like this? i mean inside the transmission.

Unlikely..... Put it back together e correctly, and adjust it correctly. Should be OK.
