Painting cb750 engine case Pictures
« on: January 01, 2021, 06:24:21 AM »
Im in the process of turning a 1978 cb750k into a cafer racer, it was a badly done cafe racer when i got the bike for next to nothing so for the cb750 purest im not turning a nice original into one, anyhow im just finished painting   the engine  case,i will be painting the cyl head in a couple days, I was debating on what to use as paint so i went with cerakote ceramic hi temp coating, i didnt want anything really gloss so went with semigloss black, I like it ,Let me know your opinion good or bad,I know the black look is not for everyone but the cafe racer theme im doing i think this is going to blend well

Did you use the air dry cerakote or the type that needs baking? I want to do an engine for a race bike and durability is key.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Looks good and well executed, but why are you asking? If the forum gives a collective thumbs down will you change the colour?  ::)

I think its looks good   and posting it if some else was thinking of repainting there engine case and likes these results then they know which product i used. for me it was hard to find anything online that i liked or knew it was going to be durable   . painting was easy it was prepping that took forever

Looks good but will it hold up?  I was under the impression that cerakote required an extremely clean surface with very specific preparation instructions...pretty difficult to achieve in a home workshop without blasting engine parts into oblivion.  How about sharing what was required.
If it works good, it looks good...

You asked... Despite having a '78 CB750F with a black engine, I do not care for the look. I want the motor to stand out in a cafe build. For me, it's THE focal point. The black paint makes the engine look like a big lump of nothing.
You only go around once in life so it might as well be on a motorcycle.

If you prefer a very close match to the Honda Silver, try this paint. They also have a “filler primer” that works well.

Looks good !   Make sure the studs that are the oil galleyways for the cam are absolutely free of ANY overspray .  That overspray will heat up and clog the small oil jets . Don't ask me how i know .)
