Trike exhaust advise.
« on: January 07, 2021, 11:24:18 AM »
PO put Low Boy stainless straight exhaust on the trike, don't like the look and to loud. I am looking into 4 into 2, either megaphone or turn out, any one w/experience in the sound difference. The megaphone have replaceable/removable baffles, turn out, no. Like the look of pipes on each side versus 4 into 1... Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a tip , I think smaller pipes give better bottom end power.. perfect for a trike.
Stock header pipes with slipons , are economical. .. might be worth a try..

Sound is tough to describe. Glaspak mufflers will blow the packing out and get louder over time anyway.
Maybe look for a European spec 4-2 exhaust, these are pretty quiet by law.

I ordered the above 4 into 2 turn outs, should be fine, and it has to sound better than the 4 straight pipes.

Check the size of air cooled VW beetle exhaust tips, they fit into some header pipes and quiet things just enough. After the muffler rusted away on my hooker headers I made collector baffles out of V8 juice cans, we'd punch enough holes in both ends so it didn't make too much back pressure but sounded good. That was when cans were steel. If you got it wrong, you got more V8.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Got the exhaust yesterday, will take some fab work to get them to mount to the trike frame and now I have to find some exhaust flange clamps because the aftermarket one the PO had installed did away w/the stock clamps...
