Picking up on a recent deer post.....
I met a Dutch guy and girl at Pincher Creek in the foothills south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They were riding their Moto Guzzi that they'd shipped over to Vancouver to tour the Rockies. As far as I know large wildlife is kinda scarce in Holland, so I asked this fella if he'd experienced any of our Canadian wildlife. Over coffee 'Hans' related his encountering a moose.
Seems he was motoring along when a moose crashed out of the bush in front of him. Hans swerved into the left lane to avoid the moose, who then turned and began running down the centerline...with Hans right beside it. Moose can move pretty fast. (I know this first hand because one time in a hydro cutline I got between a calf and her mother...and only saved my ass by scaling a hydro tower till I was out of reach.) Anyway, if Hans slowed down so would the moose, and whenever Hans would start to wind on some throttle to get by it the moose would speed up and start jigging around unpredictably. So there he was, says Hans, effectively trapped in the left lane...with oncoming traffic! Obviously the situation was resolved uneventfully....but judging from Hans' enthusiastic recounting of the experience, it must have been an oft repeated 'war story' when he got back home.
