I need an 8mm allen hand wrench for a set of 10mm allen head socket bolts that I need to keep torqued evenly,and checked regularly.I have seen someone have an L-wrench with long reach once and asked them where they got it and they just mumbled something,didn't tell me.You know,an allen wrench with the bend exactly in the center so it has a long enough handle to torque a bit;I need to reach down inside of a space and with the standard L-wrench,the short end isn't quite long enough.I have even been considering buying some 'hex stock:carbon'  from a place and then having a metal worker carefully heat it in the middle and bend it 90 degrees.. but nobody seems to sell 8mm exactly.
I Want 8mm rather than 5/16", because the 5/16" is a couple thousands less than 8mm and I want the hex wrench to fit tight,exactly into the bolt heads when I repeatedly loosen and torque these bolts down.   thanks,Bill

How long of a reach do you need?

200mm = 7.87"
https://www.amazon.com/IceToolz-Allen-Wrench-Long-Handle/dp/B0015FJ924

27cm = 10.62"
https://pedros.com/products/tools/pedal-crank-and-bottom-bracket/8mm-hex-driver-ii

You might look further into the world of bicycle-specific tools for other long 8mm wrenches, looks like they're pretty common.

Thanks for the links Alan.
The one I would like to have might not be available.I want an L-wrench that's the same length before the 90degree bend on both ends.The 90degree bend is in the direct middle of the allen key.

Can you use a 3/8" drive Allen with a long extension and ratchet or torque wrench?

  • Saver of unloved motorcycles.
 A small piece of tubing over the short end would give the needed leverage and store in a tool bag.

I think this will be the best way,just need to find a piece of the correct i.d. thick steel tubing of good strength:these 10mm bolts need torqued-down,they hold the luggage rack and the seat & the luggage rack is known to vibrate and loosen these bolts.

Man I posted last night , it did not . stick.

 I tried to suggest a bent or welded bar with short section of Allen wrench on each end..
 But in light of what I read since, cut an Inch and a half off an Allen wrench, and use a 10mm socket,  extension,  and breaker bar or ratchet..

 Oh and drilled bolts and safety wire is your buddy .. and maybe Loctite orange..

My first thought was castle nuts and cutter pins, but these bolts probably don't have nuts on the other end.

My first thought was castle nuts and cutter pins, but these bolts probably don't have nuts on the other end.

The frame had 8mm nuts/factory-style welded on behind there and they stripped out.I then tapped them(with the frame along with it) to 10-1.25 and they are good for now,although the threads in the frame are getting worn.I may need to get time-serts to install into those holes/frame sometime.

Well. Problem Solved ! I just today ordered an 8mm T-handle hex wrench from my local Fastenal here in Davis.The girl here who looked for special size bolts,washers for me online Also has found that too.The bolts and wrench will be in by the end of the week !  :)
