Carb Boot Clamps
« on: January 26, 2021, 11:25:33 AM »
Hey internet. I have a 77 CB550f. Just put new fresh soft boots on in the past few months, but I had a HELL of a time getting the clamps on. They came in a 4into1 kit and were cheaply made, and the screws were far too short.

Has anyone used a pipe clamp style on their boots, or a better option? A traditional pipe clamp seems like it would be the best bet, but I'm not sure if I will be able to find the correct width. I would like to be able to use them on both the airbox side as well as the intake manifold side, I think they might be different sizes if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks!

Are you sure you used the right clamps?  I think the ones on the airbox side are a different size than the ones used for the carb holders.

Sorry, I meant Hose Clamps. And I believe I did, I used whatever was in the kit. Maybe I'm wrong on the varying sizes. Either way, all of them were a real pain in the ass to put on.

Stock OEM (not aftermarket) clamps will fit perfectly and seal correctly.

How will you know if hose clamps have sealed, or know when you've overtightened them and damaged your carb boots?

How would I know they aren't overtightened (or correctly tightened) with any clamp?

OEM Honda clamps tighten until they're closed. They are sized correctly for OEM carb boots.

I understand that they do stretch over time, so new ones are a good idea.

Try David Silver Spares for new clamps.
Yamiya is also very good but right now their shipping is problematic.

Ordinary worm drive type hose clamps(jubilee clips) are too wide and will not seal properly
