CB750 Carb rack and airbox, actual length? 69/70 vs 78
« on: January 22, 2021, 12:49:32 PM »
I don't have access to any stock CB750s to take these measurements myself... I'm trying to determine whether a stock rack of carbs and airbox would fit into the custom frame of my trike, without running into the oil tank or backbone/gas tank.  It's got '78 heads, and came to me with dual carb cycle-x manifolds and VM34 Mikuni carbs.  The carbs run, and all, I don't have a particular problem with them.  But the downside of these Mikuni carbs is just that I'm unable to use any CB750 related documentation to help tune and maintain them... I have to go to a whole different set of reference material, all of which is generic to Mikuni carbs, and not specific to CB750s.  And, I don't have a "reference point" for whether I'm giving up any notable performance by having them, not having any other CB750s to compare to.  So I would consider swapping to the "known quantity" of a rack of stock carbs and airbox, if I knew they'd fit.

What's the chances I could get anyone to give me a simple measurement from the back edge of the center of the topmost fin of their head to the rear of the airbox for a '69 or '70?  For a '78?

Thank you!  that's a LOT smaller than I expected.  that's to the rear of the airbox?
