Starter solenoid recommendation
« on: February 04, 2021, 11:39:41 AM »
My CB750 K0 needs a new starter solenoid. I've read lots of horror stories about failed after-market replacements. I bought one a few years back from Randakk for my GL1000 and it works fine but I don't much trust Randakk stuff since Randal sold the business. Soooooo does anyone have a line on one that'll actually stay working?

I've purchased these at a power tool store, made for garden tractors. Don't mount the same at all but they have worked reliably for me.

I did the lawn tractor swap on my 79 gl1000 after a china replacement welded it's self on after a few good starts. My next 78 gl1000 got a Randakk's relay. I think it was the same as always but was probably two years ago since the last year seems to have not counted. So far I think my 750 relays are all oem.

Has anyone tried to get one from a Honda dealer? The same part was used on lots of different models.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I bought the solenoid Yamiya sell. I gave that to my CB750 K2.
It did not last long.
During a longer ride starter suddenly did not want to run after a coffee break. It had worked 1 hour earlier.
Not many starts during 3 months.

I had earlier bought a much cheaper one I did not trust.

That one went in after I recrimped the bullet plugs with correct pin and socket. It work fine. I wrapped around a little vulc tape so it sit tighter in the K2 solenoid holder.

I have after that bought 3pcs of solenoids to have in stock. They need to get the connector removed and GET correct pin and socket.

I had same bad luck with Yamiya blinker relay that I could not get to work, I really looked how it should be connected at Yamiya's page, 3 connectors, only 2 to be used.
I found a cheap relay of same size for old cars locally here that worked direct.

One of the Randakk offerings looked identical to the one I bought from Randall for my GL1000. Trusting that it was the same one, I ordered it for the CB. Pretty scary when Yamiya is selling junk eh?
