F2 Oil Filter Spacer
« on: January 24, 2021, 10:13:42 AM »
Hi,
Re assembling a basket case f2 engine and I noticed there is a spacer missing from inside the oil cooler plate. I'm unsure what this is for as the cooler plate is centered on the bolt boss in the casing.
Any info would be appreciated.

I think that bushing is actually the fastener that holds the cooler plate to the block. It’s usually internally tapped as well, to receive the locating “bolt” for the main filter housing. I’m not that familiar with F2 details, so wait to see what others say......

The F2 with spacer is to keep the oil filter against the spring and washer and uses the long bolt, there are models that use the screwed piece and shorter bolt but dont think thats the F2

Hi and thanks for the replies fellas.

Yes its part 9 in the diagram. The filter bolt is long enough to pass through the cooler plate, and the filter is kept against the washer and spring when it comes into contact with the cooler plate even before threading.
If i remember correctly xs750/850 had a threaded fastener that threaded onto the bolt , keeping filter ,washer and spring in contact before mounting the lot to the crankcase. Is this a similar fastener? I get the impression its just a collar with no internal threads. I can't see the point in it which bugs me !
I'm wondering is it a flow restrictor /seperator?

Nope just a spacer
