New member from The Netherlands
« on: February 23, 2021, 03:10:18 AM »
Hello from The Netherlands.

I registered quite a while ago now, only read a bit but thought it's time to introduce myself here.
I'm Nick, 24 years old and a Cb four enthusiast. I currently own a cb400 four, a cb500k1, a cb750k2 and a GL1000 Ltd.
You could say I have a thing for vintage Honda's...

The 400 was my first classic bike, bought it in 2015 and rode it a lot, even through the Alps for a week long holiday in 2017.
In 2017 I ran across a first owner GL1000 Limited Edition, on my search for a regular GL1000. The Ltd is the holy grail so when I saw that I new I had to get that one or I would regret that for the rest of my life. So I bought it, as a non-runner, it was parked for about 15-20 years, and as it turned out the engine was completely shot. Every bearing and every part internally had to be replaced, so that turned out to be a money pit. Luckily after about a year it was all done and I got to enjoy it, taking it to The Dolomites and the Alps in July 2019.

The 750 k2 was always a dream bike for me, and I managed to buy one in September 2019. I bought this one from the second owner, who had it for less than 1 year. He planned to restore it, but for some reason decided to not even start it. I just cleaned it a bit, got it running and upgraded the tires brakes etc. The plan is to take that one for a trip to the Alps as well when Covid allows it again.

And to keep myself busy in the meantime I bought a cb500 k1 a couple of months ago. It now runs and has original paint again, just looking for some small bits and peaces to make it original and good-looking again. I don't like the restored bikes as much as I like the ones with a bit of patina, so I usually only use old parts to fix them up. None of my bikes have been restored.

Welcome from Boston, MA! Would love to see some pics of your bikes in the Alps - best roads in Europe! I rode my K4 from Oxford, England around Europe in 2003. Also went to the Alps and the Dolomites.

Looking forward to learning more about your travels.
cheers
Andy

Welcome aboard Nick
It's great to see the enthusiasm you have at your age for these vintage gems you've found and are riding. A very good stable of bikes to decide what to ride for the day or trip. They each have special characteristics to them and are all fantastic bikes to ride and enjoy.
I did a cb350 build for my 1st wife back in 1975 for her 1st bike. I had a 75 cb750k5 Planet Blue at the time and she wanted her 350 to have the same paint scheme and a 2 into 1 Hooker Header. She rode it a couple years and then decided she wanted a new 77 cb550k. I was a parts manager back then and remember the first 75 gl1000 out of the crate and then the next year the LTD arrival.

1975 K5 Planet Blue my summer ride, it was a friend's bike I worked with at the Honda shop in 76, lots of fun to be on it again
1976 K6 Anteres Red rebuilding project, was originally my brother's that I set up from the crate, it'll breath again soon!

2008 GL1800 my daily ride and cross country runner

Prior bikes....
1972 Suzuki GT380 I had charge of it for a year in 1973 while my friend was deployed and learned to love street riding....
New CB450 K7 after my friend returned...
New CB750 K5 Planet Blue, demise by ex cousin in law at 9,000 miles...
New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

Thank you very much, I am very happy with the current diversity in the stable indeed. Although the 500 will probably make place for another 750, I saw a very nice k6 in need of some TLC. Might look in to that one..
Really love the Ltd, the whole mystique around it, I can't really put it into words. I think it can be compared to a sandcast, basically it is similar to a regular k0 (or even another 750) but there is just this thing about it that makes it special and not just the fact that it's rare.
A sandcast still is high on the wish list, just as a cbx1000, or a nice 2 stroke 3cil.. I have a big wish list of vintage bikes.
