Why do the handlebars turn further one way than the other on my 72 cb750k, doesn't appear to be modified in any way?

Stops are intact, everything looks good, the headlight bracket/ fork ear was just touching the tank when turned to the right.
I was able to solve the problem by building up the backside of the tank mount on that side.
