Hi Jerry..Everyone..

Well..as I've said about the Covid situation since we started talking about it on the SOHC4 forums..it has seemed to me that this situation has been significantly influenced by media and politically motivated biases.

Yes..Covid 19 is contagious and potentially lethal to about 10% of the general population (about 2% to 5% in morbidity..above what the usual mortality/death rate is for average populations BTW).  I don't say this lightly..because I had to attend to a lot of facial/head injuries of Marines and sailors during the Viet Nam War.

However..to hopefully add some encouraging comments here..I believe that the current vaccination programs being applied are showing really positive results .

As some of us have said before..once the general population reaches a level of 'herd immunity'..through both vaccinations and naturally acquired immunity (from exposure to..and resistance coming from our own immune response mechanisms)..then this pandemic situation will be largely under control and medically manageable..and with all reasonable precautions..(at least for most people living in developed countries).

If I may express to all of you reading this: I feel that we are definitely on the 'downhill slide' with the Corona virus situation..in the U.S. (and Japan BTW)

And as Jerry has so well shown here in starting this thread: We should appreciate that the vaccinations work..the risks are minimal (compared to the alternatives)..and we are moving out of this medical and psychological psychodrama of the past year and half or so.

Best of health and happiness to all of you..

Al/Ichi

The Delta variant is causing the majority of infections in many pockets of the US now and it is spreading rapidly among the unvaccinated populations in the US. I have a cousin in TN who refuses to be vaccinated and I told my Mom today that I bet he gets the virus before the end of the year.
The Delta variant will infect about 12% of those who are fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine...but they most likely will not require hospitalization. That is pretty good odds really as I have had the flu even when vaccinated against the strain I got... Just wasn't as bad a case.

Vaccines help and usually seen to have few major side effects for most. We are going to live with this virus for a while and there will be others that come in the future. Hopefully not pandemic like this one.

Hang in there people and enjoy your life as best you can and value the people and friends you know in this life. Try to make the world around you a nicer place...you will be happier for doing so.

A good diet of food with additional vitamine C and D will ensure a general health and immunity.  B-Complex now and then too.
Never wrong with a juicy 300 gram steak and beers.
B12 in red meat is an important vitamine.

Fat fish as salmon and makrel another natural helth injection.

Interesting if there is any data about vegans vs meat/all eaters and how Covid hit them. How many vs how severe.

Some recent good news.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are thought to provide long-term immunity.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03738-2

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/28/health/coronavirus-vaccines-immunity.html

The J&J vaccine wasn't included.

And people who have been fully vaccinated against C19 make up only .8 percent of new deaths in the US -- or 99.2% of new deaths are unvaccinated people. Good news on the efficacy of the vaccines to prevent death from Covid.

"While the vaccine rollout has helped curb cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the U.S., Forbes has previously highlighted that vaccination rates do not guarantee protection against Covid-19. Some of the world’s most vaccinated countries, with rates much higher than the U.S., have experienced severe outbreaks. The U.K. is currently grappling with a surge of infections caused by the delta variant, which now makes up nearly all new cases."

Two weeks ago I received my second shot (Moderna) so today I am considered “fully vaccinated”.

Wife had her second shot a week ago and the kids get their second shot this Friday.

Will be a big relief when all the family is done .

My neighbor got his first dose on Monday, and his arm hurt a LOT by yesterday, plus he had a fever, but he had Covid already.
Update: My neighbor had a more severe reaction to his second Moderna shot, but has since felt much better than before getting the vaccine, as he had been suffering long term effects from his Covid infection back in November. In fact, he is back to his PITA former self. ;D ;D

I wish the news would cover more about the J and J vaccine which was the flavor of the day when I went through the process. Seems all the news wants to talk about is the Phizer and Moderna when talking about variants, long term effectiveness  and what not. Guess I could do some googling but I kind of feel like those who took it are being left out of the loop.

Guess I could do some googling but I kind of feel like those who took it are being left out of the loop.

There has been some news about the J&J vaccine lately. Some recommended a single shot of Pfizer or Moderna but now it's not recommended. J&J are reporting that it retains long-term effectiveness, including effectiveness against the Delta variant.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/01/health/coronavirus-johnson-vaccine-delta.html

https://www.jnj.com/positive-new-data-for-johnson-johnson-single-shot-covid-19-vaccine-on-activity-against-delta-variant-and-long-lasting-durability-of-response

Concerns over clotting were mostly misplaced, and the benefits outweight the risk:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/JJUpdate.html

There were 38 reports of TTS out of 12.3 million shots.

Similarly, concern over deaths due to vaccinations was overblown. The CDC reports 0.0018% of vaccine recipients dying within 24 hours after receiving a shot, but the CDC has not established a causal link to vaccinations. Essentially, a certain number of people would die within 24 hours of any event, statistically speaking.

Got my first dose of AstraZeneca a week ago, into left arm. Small fever / headache the first night, took some paracetemol and plenty of water.

Right as rain the next day, injection site a little sore, but then again the Christian Brothers did much worse to it back in the day.

Here it is 12 weeks between shots, so have to wait for full protection.

Second dose of AstraZeneca yesterday, no ill effects other than the nurse jabbing me mercilessly. CDMX has lowered the vaccination age to 30+ so there were a lot more people than my first jab 8 weeks ago, but the process was smooth and I was in and out of there in about an hour.

I was under the impression that the US wasn't using AstraZeneca. Have things changed?

Hi Everyone..
I just wanted to post here to say that my wife and I received our first round of Covid vaccine a couple of weeks ago. It was absolutely non-problematic (other than the usual discomfort from routine IM injections. which lasted for about a couple of days.  And as explained before..I'm no stranger to routine vaccine injections..from 6 years of military service..and fairly routinely since then LOL)

I also recently saw a good video from the former director of the CDC..which I thought was informative..wanted to include the URL to here:  https://video.foxnews.com/v/6262301005001

Cheers all!  Will post again after our second Covid injection BTW..

My wife and I have had both our shots of Pfizer. The only side effect for me was after the first shot. I quickly learned not to trust my farts for a couple of days.  :-[ ::)
