So yesterday morning I set off to Tilbury Ontario, to visit Maurice and Gisèle Damphousse. About 400 kilometres from home. One stretch of highway was blowing snow, whiteout. Fortunately only about a 20k stretch! Took along a good buddy (serious hotrodder and vintage drag racer), stopped and ate some real junk food, along the way. Based on three poor quality photos, set off to buy my very first CB750 powered chopper!
Maurice built the bike in 1975. I believe it’s an AMEN frame, and he bought the complete front and and fuel tank from Tony Carlini Cycle Creations in Dearborn Michigan, along with lots of other Carlini parts. He did all his own assembly and paint (Maurice’s Shop is also full of beautifully restored, vintage tractors). The engine is and early one (cb750E-1020742). It was also built by a nearby shop Carlini used, Hendley Performance. Lots of chrome and a big set off Mikuni carbs.
Maurice had a mild stroke a few years ago, keeps it clean, but hasn’t ridden it since. He had a new battery in it, and has been running it regularly. Petcocks “”ON”, pull up the enricher lever, push the button and it fired instantly. 70 psi oil pressure and smooth. Wow.
No turnsignals or speedometer, it will need some updating. There’s a legitimate Ontario Ownership, so Transfer should be no issue. Passing a “safety” and getting insurance might be a challenge, but I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with it. For now, a “3,000 mile tune up”, oil and filter, and some cleaning, polishing, and grease. It looks really solid and fantastic. I’m just delighted! If anyone sees any details they can add, much appreciated!
