Per….. I have not got into them. Will report when I do.

The tank is derusting for 24 hrs. Everyone is coming for the long weekend. School starts Tuesday here. Got the bikes running and ready to go for the g’kids! The RM80 had a plugged jet. Rode it once around, that thing is lethal!

Tank sat all day, filled with phosphoric acid (Stearn’s Milkstone Remover and water @ 8:1) and leaving it over night. The “wrinkle tank” portion I can see just below the cap is already rust free. Definitely going to install a pair of small, well hidden inline filters for the first few tanks of gas!

Flushed it out with a high pressure water and threw in some diesel fuel/ two stroke oil mix. Shake and drying in the sun. Not absolutely perfect, but moving ahead!

Definitely going to install a pair of small, well hidden inline filters for the first few tanks of gas!

I would be really interested in the type of filter to use and the correct fuel line routing for K0.

Very fine powder passing the strainer?

The filter in the petcock work fine on my 2 bikes. The earlier 2 piped petcock. But not old, ordered 2013-2017.
I have a feeling that dirt will come with fuel from the gas station.
As here. No fuel starvation.


My K2 had fuel issues. It was the soft stock type non braided fuel hose from Yamiya.
It can be bent so fuel will starve.
Close to where connected on carb pipes that can be angled wrong. When adjusting air screws, move hose away for easier acccess.
Hose can be a little nicked, enough to act as too small main jets

Before checking low float level or go bigger on main jets, check fuel hose routing.

The tank on this ‘69 has not been used for +48 years. I’ve cleaned and flushed it over and over but I’m sure there is still some fine “silt” in it. The petcock has all new parts, including a screen and internal “0” ring. I’m planning to hide two small inline filters between it and the carbs. I run a set on my K1 and have never had any difficulty with fuel flow. Will post some pictures when I get to it.

Working on the tank finish today and realized the two NOS badges I have are for a 1971! Add refurbishing the originals to my “to do” list……

Steve…… On post 1385 you’ll see the wrong one. I put it on for the photo. It’s white with gold border and should be on my K1. Here’s what I dug out for the SC. I’ll clean them up and touch them up. JTMarks has a set on EBAY, but they are repros. These are originals. One was actually on the bike when I started……

Someone asked about the small inline fuel filters? Here’s the pair I’m using on this for a while…… For some reason, lots of people have trouble when they install them. I’ve had a set on my K1 for a few years and they work fine. Despite my best efforts, I’m sure there is still some crap in this 55 year old tank. Bit of extra insurance. Carbs are spotless and I want them to stay that way! When the “belly” of the filter darkens up, time to change them out.

How they have run the fuel hoses is usually the problem,  not having an all downhill slope without any uphill to get to the carb inlet tees. I've seen hoses that dipped below the inlet tees and bowls to put the filters on the backside of the carbs. You have properly run your hoses John havingthefilters up on top(hopefullythey don't get vapor lock from the heat that close to the head).
Putting the hoses below the bowls is a problem in the waiting to interrupt the flow of gas, especially at speed.

Using that good Honda hose helps. Nice gentle bends ensures no restriction by the hose too. When the petcock bowl runs clean, I’ll definitely remove those extra filters.

Thank you for posting the photos of the fuel line routing, just seems odd that the lines are not retained by anything and so close to the choke operating mechanism.

Very discreet little filters, I have looked but can’t find them. Would you be able to post a link?

Kevin…… I pick the fuel filters up at a local lawn mower/ small engine repair shop. The guy keeps a box of them on the counter and gives them away to paying customers or $0.99 each.

The lines lay nicely in place, because they are new, Honda hose. I also have an invisible tie holding the one from carbs #1 and #2 down against the carb plate so it can’t get near the choke mech.

Yesterday I had to correct my own stupid mistake. When I added fuel to the tank, my painstakingly restored petcock started pissing fuel everywhere. And not just a bit. Cleaned up and opened it up to see what faulty part was to blame.

Imagine my surprise when I found the “wavey washer” UNDER the lever disc instead of ON TOP of it. There’s an idiot in my shop and apparently it’s me!

Good news is I’m done.

I would have to think long and hard about removing that dent..
 Every mark on an original bike had a story, part of its life.. it adds character. . And it reflects it being used..And a life lived..
 A shiny restored bike.. it just looks new and perfect.. no stories.. sort of sterile. . Almost like kept in a box and not taken out..

 Ever take a look at early original bikes from the 20,s and down... usually worth more than the restored ones..
 So yeah on this one , you can harm the value by restoring it, plus  deplete your savings.

Even though Frank did not want the dent removed, it was the right thing to do and he would now approve!
