I have my doubts whether you could get a used exhaust clean enough on the inside for it to stick. I after it's dry I bake it with a hot air gun blowing through the pipe.

Depending on the length of the pipes, you might be able to sandblast the inside of the pipe first.

Don't worry about trying to paint the insides of used pipes, just run some premix two stroke fuel through your bike for a tank full or two. The fuel won't hurt your bike, but the oil will mist thru your exhaust system and leave a protective coat. Do it before you park it up for winter and the wet acids in your pipes won't rot your exhausts out.

Terry..... for this treatment, how much 2 stroke oil would you add to a full cb750 fuel tank?

I guess while I have the pipes off before installing them, I'll coat them with some oil and let them drain into a bucket.

That must be the easy way doing it.
I oiled 2 sets of 4-4 when new with oil I hade mixed with naphta to make it flow easier. Around 2 deciliter in each pipe I rotated and flipped so oil could cover everywhere.
I hope it will work.
The climate is not that humid here.
Only late autumn and early spring with colder weather condense will spray a little out of the pipes.

I use a half oz to an oz. of Amzoil 2 stroke marine oil or so in a tank re-fill. I do that for the gas tank but figure it won't hurt the pipes either.
The Eastwood's coating also adds another layer of protection from heat in the head pipes. A local chopper builder used to run the cylinder rich for a while on every new build to coat the inside with carbon to keep them from turning blue. I'd bet he didn't think of 2 stroke oil.

Was at a swap meet last week, in Peterborough, ON. All Harley stuff, but one guy had a box marked “Honda Bits”. Found a really good, early style seat latch (the kind with the metal hook for a safety) and a completely rust free set of instrument straps. $10! It was a nice day to ride the K1 too......

Nice. And sorry for not answering sooner, but yep, just mix a weak tankful of 2 stroke fuel (50:1 should do it) and run it thru your bike now and then to keep the pipes coated with an oil mist. Don't try to coat them with anything else afterwards, as it probably won't stick.

Working on my g’son/son’s Z50 this morning (my son leaves his broken toys here and they miraculously heal themselves) and got distracted.....

Finished dismantling the S/C front forks. They definitely need new tubes, seals, gaiters etc. I need to get the lowers out to my local polisher. I’ll include the front hub and then I will have enough stuff to assemble the front end, install a wheel and tire, and get it up on a table. Probably not before Christmas, but moving again.

I was determined not to spend “summer hours” in the shop. Didn’t, so not much got done for the past 6-7 months.

Don..... started some real “Farming” and still managed 5 X double header endurance races, during the good weather. I’ve decided the projects can just take a bit longer!

Don't mean to disrupt this thread, but I have a question. If John's tank had a crease, how would it affect a repair?

A crease usually implies the paint is cracked or broken. Even a skilled body man will still have the paint/primer pop away and break, as soon as he pulls and pushes the steel. If it’s intact, with a bit of warmth (and skill) it will come back out and polish up nicely. The other side has a “ sharper” ding that may be more of a challenge…….

PDR generally cannot work out a crease as the metal usually stretches some with a crease.
A really good PDR guy can do magic as can a body man who isn’t a plasterer… Good body work is expensive as is a good PDR guy. Any PDR work is costly, but usually cheaper than repaint work. Finding someone good with vintage tank or tanks in general is tough… many oversell their abilities.

No. He’s in Toronto (I’m 60 miles N.E.). Probably early in the New Year. I want to meet the guy, check out his shop, etc. Will post updates.

My replacement K0 fork tubes seem a bit oversize. Watch out for that when tightening the top triple. I can't draw the D washers up tight.
