Dropped the two main parts (barrels and head) at Rocket Performance, Whitby, Ont., for vapour blasting. Examined other stuff he’s done. Amazing results. He’s busy, so may be the New Year, before they are done. I’ll do pistons and rings in the meantime, clean valve train and general prep. Not in any rush....


His results looked so great, I may dismantle the carbs again, and get him to do the main bodies, tops and float bowls. I got them very clean in my ultra sonic tank, but they still show “staining”. We’ll see.

If there is any rust showing on the outside of the pipes I bet the amount on the inside is much greater. Sad to say.

Hey John...I had my H2 carbs vapor blasted a few years ago and they still look great.  IMO, it is by far the best finish you can apply to aluminum...

I agree.  I had mine vapor blasted and then had matte black cerakote applied to the bodies for some contrast to the engine.

Here are my carbs after vapor blasting, and then after applying cerakote and assembly.  The peened finish after blasting retains its finish.  I wanted mine impervious to gas, so I had them cerakoted.

Cerakote is a ceramic coating applied with a paint gun.  It requires slightly more prep than paint and air cures.  Once cured, it extremely durable/scratch resistant and nearly stain proof (especially as to gas/oil/petroleum products). There are numerous colors available.  It has great heat dispersion qualities so it's safe on engines and exhaust components. It cures to very thin thicknesses, so not much is needed. It is used for guns as well (including slides which endure heat and friction).

I have not shot it myself.  My buddy does it.  He says that clean up is similar to paint but you have to be thorough.

Last post for 2022. Received a nice note via “snail mail” from Mark P. today. It included the correct head gasket “0” rings I will need for this project. Very generous and many thanks, Mark!

Stripped the chrome, cap and badges off the s/c tank today and took it to a paintless dent remover that has an excellent reputation. It has a few dents, but no cracks in the paint. If he can “save” it, I want to polish it up and leave truly original. Fingers crossed!

PeWe..... apparently it’s a very early “17 litre, double wrinkle tank” . Built in May of 1969.

Most importantly it’s original to the motorcycle. Only the carbs, airbox and some switches were missing (day 1 photo attached). I’m trying to restore, rebuild, reuse as much as possible.

Waiting for a clean cylinder head from vapour blasting. Cleaned up all the valves today.....

The tank on my K0 is off an early K1, but as Mark Paris has mentioned previously, K1and later tanks don't fit K0's well, so I want to have the tank on my K2 "Bitsa" which is an original K0 tank repaired (I'll have it repainted as the paint is pretty bad) and put on my K0, and put the tank that's on my K0, on a future K1 build.

Understood.... This “wrinkle tank” is the only one I have with the extra room for the 4-1 cables, where the adjusters come out of the carb tops. My 1970 K0 had a brand new, factory Honda K1 tank with out those cut outs and it never sat down quite correctly...

Yep, I think it was Frank who said that there were at least 3 (maybe 4?) K0 tanks, the first ones didn't have those "dents" for the the carb tops, then the next ones had just two dents, then the last wrinkle tanks had 4. Mine is a January 1970 K0 so didn't have a wrinkle tank, so I sold the "4 dent" wrinkle tank that I'd bought for it. If I can get my 1970 "Non Wrinkle" tank repaired so it looks like new, I'll put it on my K0 and free up that K1 tank for my K1 build, when I get around to it.

It’s “old school”, but works well. The 2X4 for the LEXUS race car is 2’ long (24 valves)!
