Barter is a lost art for many, glad you haven't lost it!
Good luck with the engine transplant!

Not around here. Tim repaired the engine in a local farmer’s truck a few months ago for three calves!

Always good to hear when the younger ones appreciate the older ones.

Saw them this morning, they’ll be here after work. They also hang around in the evenings when we work on the race car. Good bunch.

I really enjoy living in a rural farm community. A month ago, one of the local fellows was much too sick to work his field. All the young men that work at Tim’s are “farm kids”. Their families got together for a few evenings and we planted +120 acres of soybeans for the gentleman. Great bunch.

Reminds me of growing up here in southern NH as a kid when we still had a lot of small family farms, come hay cutting I'd often stop and help pitch in especially if there was rain on the way, up into my 30s. Most of the farms are gone now as well as the farmers......

I sure miss those years on the Missouri farm, too. It was my grandparents' place, stayed there in the summers after school, from 1963 until 1969. Learned how to hand-plant and tractor-plant seeds, how to weed with a small plow, and how to through manure more than 25 feet with the manure spreader (hint: forget to turn off the PTO before hitting the hiway to tow it home...).

I'll bet that was a sight to see.
Did you have to go back and clean up the road?

Moving ahead……. Short one aluminum crush washer for the oil lines! Jumped around today installing wiring, drive chain, got all the engine mounts aligned and tightened up, polished a few tappet caps, and started cleaning parts I’ve been avoiding. Tonight I will sit down and blacken the HONDA logo on the alternator. My wife is away for a few days, so pushing on. I want to get oil in the tank and bring up oil pressure before going too much further. I like to see that cam box fill up!

Do you have original exhaust pipes as well?

Dennis…… The originals were on the bike and are probably repairable. However, a few years ago a friend in Calgary had bought a set of “no number” Yamiya pipes for a project that never materialized. I’ve never opened the box, but it is sitting in my shop (taking up the space of another bike!). Assuming they’re in there, that’s what I plan on using.

Oil tank and lines are in. Loaded in one litre of oil and no leaks (yet).
Note the early style “smooth hose”.

Pouring rain all day so no “yard work”. Dropped a battery in the bike and it’s alive! Everything works as it should.

That’s how it came out. Inserted from the right, nut on the left (when sitting on the bike). Will look at some other bikes….

Pick a way! I appreciate it. The bike was missing a tach cable and the new one I have appears massive in diameter. Looking through my junk to see if I have thinner, older looking one, or on another bike…..

Looked at a few sites, looks right. They call for “period dress” at Cobble Beach. I have an old leather jacket, matching boots, white Honda Tee shirt and an old pair of jeans. Perfect!

Careful John, they might be stickler for model of the jeans, hate to find you in a pair of Levi 540s when they were not produced until much later...
Better stock with button fly Levi 501s...

Just kidding.
Bike looks great and glad you are making nice progress. We are starting to see a little relief in the intense heat, been in excessive heat that makes outside activity dangerous most of the daytime hours into the night. Humidity has come back down to reasonable 15-18% range for the extreme heat.
Some bikers made the fatal mistake of riding into Death Valley when it was 124-128F. Last I read one died and another was critical enough to be rushed to hospital. Haven't heard or read any updates.  A real stupid move.
Darwin at work I guess...more thinning of gene pool required.
Father near me left his 2 yr old sleeping in parked car after arriving home and her asleep. Came out a little while later to find vehicle had turned itself off and his baby girl died from the heat exposure. Vehicles get really hot here.  Those kinds of accidents are gut wrenching.

NASA did some thermal imaging of Phoenix streets on a 106F day and found many streets were at 150-160F in some areas across town and green spaces were key to lower temperature. Contact burns are no fun...
People literally use oven hot mitts to drive when their steering wheel will burn you from the heat. Having gloves in your vehicle is always a good idea...
Desert 🏜️ problems, be glad you don't have them ...
