The one NOS part I really needed came today. I’ve had two rights and one left waiting on the Sandcast forever. Now a complete set, still in original packaging!

Interesting variance. Both these exhaust clamp/ collars are original Honda parts. Both have the same part number.

The one on the right is NOS from dealer inventory that is probably +50 years old. The one on the left is more recent (no idea how old, but the plastic bag is definitely newer style). I’ve had three of them forever. Notice the newer one is ground smooth around the bolt area and the older one is not! New and improved? I guess I’ll hide it on an inner pipe.

Finally opened the box of Yamiya 4-4 “no number” replica pipes. These are the ones I got from a fellow in Calgary, ages ago. He bought them for a project that never materialized. They look correct and the top two are perfect.

Finished polishing tappet covers (what a thankless job) and spun the engine a few times. All smooth and quiet, but no oil pressure yet. I hope I don’t have to prime the pump. Need this done before the fun starts with the new pipes!

The carbs I built to start the engine (at the beginning of this project) worked well and I remember them looking good…….. Compared to those pipes and the rest of the engine, not anymore. I’m going to fit them once to make sure the airbox lines up nicely, but after that they will need to be stripped and vapour blasted.

Well…. It turns out I have lots of oil pressure. The new switch from vintagecb750.com does not work. That switch and the intake manifold rubbers that did NOT fit on my K6 project are going back this week. They need to resolve some issues and I want a refund.

I’ve got some wiring to check because despite the switch not working (no ground, open circuit) the dash light is on constantly. Mmmm. I hope the problem is not internal to my freshly restored (Marcel) tach?

Working on the race car. Alignment at Tim’s business tonight, so this will get resolved in the am. I did loose fit one exhaust pipe and it looks blindingly good. Pictures tomorrow.

I checked out the exhaust collar/flange I have, it has the old label and is smooth like you got recently.

Nice work John, funny how we start polishing and cleaning things up and that work snowballs or causes additional efforts to bring things into similar cosmetic shape. Throwing freshly painted and polished tank and side covers on a bike and suddenly we are pulling out the stops on touching up and buffing and cleaning everything near that...heaven forbid you add a shiny exhaust or fender in the mix and you suddenly have chrome plating bills appearing or engine and bike fasteners begin looking dull...

Bike is looking good...glad you have resourceful friends with vapor blasting capabilities and other handy things you can barter for...

Stu…. That’s interesting. I wonder when they got the extra grinding/polishing? The fellow at the dealership figured the one with the paper label may have been in their parts room for more than 45 years! I do have my originals and will check to see what they look like. They are in a bath of rust remover and if they polish up well, I will use them.

I got mine from a friend here that has a ton on NOS parts he bought from dealers 25 years ago. He has sold much on ebay in the past and to CMSL and DavidSilver, this was the only one that he had.

I would suspect that the rough cast one may have been a sandcast period part.

Number one and two need a 3/16” spacer between them to really line up nicely. Otherwise, very good! Interestingly, these Yamiya “no number” pipes appear to be internally coated with a white/grey paint. Nice and thick, it looks ceramic.

Finished up and loaded the race car today. Full weekend at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park). 2.5 mile road course with 10 corners and huge elevation changes. My favourite race track! Super fast laps. No motorcycle stuff until next week……

I did finish up the pipes this morning. The cross bar in the top left end cap is not straight up/down. Will need some “ adjustment”…… It will bug me until I fix it.

CMS shows the parts numbers as 18315-300-010, superceded to 18315-300-020, which can still be ordered from Honda. South Sound shows they are available so try your old NOS parts guys up there.
My friend Steve might have one NOS(maybe more?), but he is away on vacation until the middle of August though I might be able to get in to check the stock if I call him later today.

Stu….. would the XXX-010 be the Matte Finish and the other one the chrome, later style? I will get my local dealer to check stranger things have happened!

That is entirely possible John. I don't have both on front of me.
The 18315-300-020 is the number of the K6(South Sound)so going with that the the 020 is the shiny chrome.....
The 020 is what my friend Steve has on his inventory list..... 😞
