Can anyone name this vintage machine?

Just throwing out a guess. Looks like an early 60's Yamaha. I was going to say a 250 but, judging by the headlight size, I'm guessing maybe a 125 twin or maybe a 180 (don't remember when the 180 came out for sure). I don't remember. It's a Sport model because of the upswept pipes, sometimes called a "Scrambler" back then. Actually, after I got to looking at it again, I'm not sure but it looks like a one cylinder job. Again, I'm just guessing.

Actually I bought this off of ebay, just havent picked it up yet. It was listed as yamaha, but it has a suzuki two cylinder engine. After researching it a bit it looks like a suzuki trailmaster 80, but they only came with one cylinder. It also has the two rear sprockets for high and low gear. So, the question is, is it a yamaha with a suzuki motor, or is it a suzuki with a yamaha tank???

Good grief, a "FrankenBike"!

There's not much telling just what you've gotten into. Probably won't know for sure until you've gotten that puppy home. I'd be looking that sucker over from one end to another. I got a basket case bike once that was described as a Honda seat on "they didn't know what it was". Well, I did some trading for it because, I recognized it as a Ducati but wasn't sure if it was a 250 or larger. For those who don't know, they also made a 350 and 450 singles. Turns out that it was a 350 Ducati with a chrome straight pipe and a Honda Seat. Never got it running, traded it off for an 81 XS650 (that also needed lots of work) and ended up selling the XS. You'll just have to look it over and get info off the motor and the frame and go from there, unless someone else has more insight as to what it might be.

Yeah, probably wont know till I get it home. I know it has two cylinders from the other pic. I cant get it to save right. I'll post some good pics when I get it home. Perfect cafe project seeing as it is a frankenbike already, plus it supposedly runs.

Are you sure it's a twin? I've seen singles with dual exhaust ports and others with dual spark plug holes!
With all that, why they didn't make those as twins is beyond me!

You mean like this? Then, the scrambler models had 2 sets of coils and sparkplugs with a switch to control which set you ran off of and if you had a problem, you could switch over to the other set, while running. This one is a 57' 175 single. This bike is similar to the one I built from scratch when I was 14yrs old. Only mine was a 58' 125 and I painted it gloss black. Wish I had an actual picture.

Exactly! Even the new Suzuki 250 entry bike has dual pipes. (I do believe that has dual exaust valves too.) My old Yamaha DT125 had a blank plug over the optional 2nd spark plug location.

I picked up the bike yesturday. All I can say is frankenbike. It is a yamaha fitted with a suzuki 149cc powerplant. The guy I got it from told me he had it running and drove it until the front tube exploded. Thought yeah right. Well put some gas in it, threw a battery in it, and sprayed some starting fluid in the carbs and it roared to life, for about 10 seconds. Throttle is stuck. I'll get some closeup picks posted when I can make the files smaller.

Nothing wrong with that, just needs a Honda seat, and a Kawi throttle and your set!

Never seen one exactly like it but, I figure that it's to give you a choice of high or low gearing. Is there any kind of a selector on it anywhere? It would be similar to the old 70's Suzuki TC125s, Honda CT90s and CB900 Classic. That's my thoughts on it.

I remember the extra hole being used for a compression release. My Kawi 120 had one.

The bike frame looks excactly like the one you posted. Havent been riding on the thing to try out the gear thing. Its freezin here plus the front tube is blown. The only difference in frame though is mine has a downtube.
