Dismantling front wheel: CL360. WTF???????
« on: March 10, 2007, 02:27:16 PM »
I am putting new tires on my GF's bike and the front tire is vexing me.  I can't get the axle out or the drum apart.  How do the front drum brakes come apart?

If I could get the axle and brake off, the job would be easy, but this is confounding me!

Thanks.

I'm more used to the disk setup on the CB's but perhaps the brakes are pressing slightly on the drum and thats why it won't come off.
Some times those axles just get stuck and need a good wacken with a plastic mallet. I hope someone else gives you more advice. ;)

The axle and brake plate are turning freely, so it's not stuck, and I've WAILED on the axle with a plastic mallet.  That was therapeutic, even if it didn't wind up helping.  ;D

If you've got the wheel off the bike and your punding on the correct side of the axle, there should be nothing holding it in. Same basic thing with the brake cover. If it spins then it should fall straight out...... ???

That's what I suspected.  Thinking of chucking it in a hydraulic press because I think it's just stuck.

Look on your axel.   If there ar flats on both sides of the wheel it has a axle and a "round" nut on the other side.  Reason for the "flats".  Or it is just stuck.
