CB400F turn signal relay
« on: February 10, 2021, 05:24:38 PM »
I'm restoring a 1977 CB400F.
Turn signals works correctly (maybe a bit slowly but probably acceptable).
All bulbs are STD incandescent.
On wiring diagram, there are three wires that goes to the relay and there's also three wires on my bike.
However, the turn relay only has two pins so one of the wires is not used.

QUESTION
Is my bike OEM of does it need a 3 pin turn signal relay?

Thanks!

Usually the one wire is a green that is not used on the two pin relay. The grey and black are the two other colours from what I recall. The slow flash could be a combination of oxidized contacts at the signal bullet connectors. It is best to go through all the ground points on the signals to the chassis and clean up all the bullet connectors too. These bikes at idle don't charge or put out a strong voltage, so it maybe related to your entire system being aged and cleaning the contact and connectors may help you there.
Your flasher could be tired too as they rely on a simple heat to break contact system inside the flasher box, if it is still the original one on there.

3 pin relay required in some countries like UK , speed will get quiker when engine running and battery charging
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
